Patterson PTA General Meeting

February 9, 2017

I.  Call to Order

•  The meeting was called to order at 9:38 AM

II. Approval of the January 12, 2017 Meeting Minutes

•  The minutes will be approved as posted.

III. Principal’s Report, Mrs. Frost

•  Robotics Club - competition is on Feb 25th at Nequa Valley.

•  Cultural Night is on Feb. 24th

•  We are finished with our bench mark testing - students are making great progress

•  March 17th Report Cards will be out

•  Homer Glen School District is coming to observe our building. They are thinking about going to full day Kindergarten

•  Jump Rope for Heart is on Tues. Feb. 14th. We still need volunteers.

•  Elections are going on for the Board of Education

•  From Springfield we do not have clarification on the funding yet.

•  No School on the 20th for President’s Day

•  Friendship Parties are tomorrow - Some teachers are doing Valentines early and some are doing them on the 14th.

•  PARCC Testing dates are out and starting March 13th. in English, Language ARts, and Math. SOme classes are going to start doing practice tests on the computers.

•  IEPF Marathon sign up is going on right now. They have a great website on the district home page. They are looking to recruit runners. Funds this year went to the teams.

IV. iPad Discussion, Mrs Maly

We are looking at what is our outcome for the students?

Chrome books - next year we are piloting and the following year we will be getting Chrome books for grades 2-5.

Why use iPads? collaboration, video making, guided reading, garage band, apps to control the iPads, swift playground (a new coding app). Our Current iPads we have are old and do not support recent software and updates.

V. President Report

•  We need to create a nominating committee. They need to look at all the candidates and selecting who would be the best fit and creating a slate. Those names will be announced and posted at our March meeting and at the April meeting the membership would vote on the candidates.

•  Priyanka Kabra made a motion and Sarah Stevens seconded the motion to create a new line item in the budget for School Enhancements for $11,000.

•  Labels for Education - Balls are all in and in the closet - the gift cards came today and the additional items will be purchased and have them ready in the next 2 weeks.

•  Courtyard enhancements will happen over break.

•  Class parties/Sock Hop tomorrow.

•  Cultural Night on 2/24.

VI. VP - Administration

•  Friendship parties and sock hop is 2/10. All volunteer positions are filled.

•  Teacher appreciation 5/1-5/5 Fiesta theme, Breakfast, Lunch, Barista, Raffle. There will be a collection in April for all of the teachers/assistants just like last year.

•  Yearbook - working with a vender. They have an online system that makes it easier for our volunteers to create. It will put the yearbook cost at $1 more.

•  IPSN - Having a guest speaker, Matt Cohen - talking about navigating through IEPs.

•  Project Arrow PTA - is at Culvers next week 2/13 7pm.

•  Friendship Parties - check in is at 2:15.

VII. Treasurer

•  Income - $1197.70 Box Tops, Lou Malnati’s $218.94, Traversos $250,

•  Register Balance is $35,268

IX. Vice President - Enrichment

•  Reflections - congratulations to Grace P. for advancing.

•  Science Fair - 3/8 6-8pm - $300 from IPEF - SciTech from Aurora is coming in to do a wind tunnel. NASA merchandise signed by an astronaut will be some prizes. There are 35 extra projects this year. We need more judges email Participation rewards will be a tape measure.

•  Spring Family Night - Roller Skating at the Aurora Skate center from 5-7pm April 8th. The rink is rented out for just Patterson. It is free for Patterson families. It is not a drop off event. Pamela Mikulcik made a motion to move $200 to the Family Spring Budget budget Karen Young seconded the motion.

•  STEAM Day - April 27th. There will be an online sign up for it. If you want to volunteer you can email .

X. Old Business

•  Fundraiser spending: No additional ideas came forward since the january meeting.

Those discussed were: Sound System, Entrance Enhancements (shade over benches etc.), 5th Grade Gift, Climbing Wall, New Recess Equipment, Trees, Buddy Bench, Garden, iPads, Carpet

•  Additional Information - iPads - Looking at the iPad Air 2. $3740 for a 10 pack plus $250 support fee.

Sound System for the gym $9800 fully installed wit no projector or screen. New speakers. Mrs. Kiesewetter spoke with Jorie Snyder and feels like it would not be used on a day to day basis and it would only be used in larger event settings.

Climbing Wall - 40 ft. 6999.90 plus $1900 installation and Mrs. Kiesewetter’s money of $2500. $6399.99 from PTA. It is 40 feet horizontal.

Water fillers - $900.

Upon further discussion, two options were decided on to be presented for voting:

Option 1 was for 27 iPads 27.

Option 2 was for the Rock Wall and 11 iPads.

Through a paper vote 7 people voted for 27 iPads and 12 people voted for the Rock Wall and iPads.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:58.
