2011 Annual Top Gun Competition

Dear Coach:

It’s that time again to start thinking about the summer “Top Gun” cheerleadingCompetition. We hope that your summer is going well and that you and your athletes will be able to join us. The event will take place at BrewerMiddle School on July 28th. Registration and warm-up will begin at 5:00 pmand the competition will start at 6:00 pm.

There will be 5 categories to involve your athletes in: Stunt, Dance, Jumps, Tumblingand “new” category, team cheer with an incorporation of stunt(s) or pyramid. Any athlete can be involved in all categories, and can be involved in more than one group. Our goal is to make it easier for you to involve as many athletes as possible. There will be2 Divisions for stunting and tumblingwhich is explained on the next page. It will be up to you, as coaches, to determine which division each of your groups will safely compete.

Registrations for competing athletes will be free of charge. A$3.00 admission feewill charged to help offset some of the cost of the competition. * Please be sure that possible spectators are notified about the admission price prior to the event. A few items for concession and

TOP GUN CATEGORIES

STUNTING:

  • In this category each group will stunt for 30 seconds to music. Groups will consist of up to 5 athletes. (Please have someone there to play each groups music).
  • Participants may be involved in more than one group. A different group will be based on at least one different person in a group.
  • There will be 2 Divisions, and coaches will determine which division each group is in. Division 1 will consist of groups who perform upper level one-legged stunts other than libs, basket tosses, and a variety of dismounts. Division 2 will consist of groups who perform mainly prep transitional stunts, extensions, and libs with mostly straight dismounts.

DANCING:

  • In this category groups will consist of no more than 5 participants.
  • Each group will dance to no more than 1 minute of music.
  • Dance does not have to be original, for instance, it could be something they learned at a camp or have performed before.
  • Coaches please make sure that your athletes dance moves and music is appropriate.

JUMPS:

  • This category will be completely individual. It will be a jump off. Participants will perform their best jump in the first round and if they make it to the final round they will perform their best jump and a toe touch.* This category is limited to 4 athletes per school only.

TUMBLING:

  • This category will also be individual. Participants will perform their best tumbling pass. There will be 2 divisions:

Division 1: Participants will perform a pass or standing no-handed skill.

Division 2: Participants will perform a pass or standing backhandsprings or less.

“NEW” TEAM CHEER WITHSTUNT/PYRAMID INCORP:

  • Teams will perform an original cheer which should include a stunt(s) or pyramid. There will be one division in this category.
