Aquarius New Moon – January 27, 2017

At the New Moon, the sky is dark, the Moon having dipped below the horizon with the setting Sun. The visual announcement of a new cycle’s start does not show until a day or so later, when a slim crescent appears in the west. We often begin our new cycles like the New Moon, somewhat in the dark. The twelve to thirteen New Moons every year are power times, each a celestial chance to build anew, to flow in ever greater harmony with the highest expression of the energies involved. Aquarius stands for our baptism into collective consciousness, the challenge to transcend differences of gender, race, creed and nationality… and to live our truth.

“Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.” W. Clement Stone

Aquarius has been associated with the man with the water pot from very early times. The Water-Bearer is an ancient symbol, once used by priest initiates to indicate the periodic recurrence in our solar system of an age of unusual activity in human affairs. At this time, the constellation of Aquarius is rising above the horizon of the chart of planet earth. Symbolically speaking, the great urn which the Water-Bearer is to carry to humanity has been slowly filling in Pisces. His task now is to pour forth these waters of wisdom and knowledge for the benefit of all people, as we enter the New Age.

This New Moon in the sign of the Water-Bearer brings a new infusion of wisdom and light, effervescent with original and innovative ideas flowing from his watering pot to uplift our consciousness and the consciousness of humanity. This illumination is vital to bring about necessary changes in the status quo in order to further the evolution of humanity and of Planet Earth. Aquarius is the energy that brings change, that brings the new into manifestation. It rules invention, high technology and tools of divination such as astrology, numerology, the tarot and I Ching. This wisdom is now ever more available to us as we tune into and work in harmony with our Aquarius energy. The symbolic urn of the Water-Bearer represents the mystic seed-bag that is releasing the substance of a new humanity. It contains all the gifts of Aquarius that will bring people together in the spirit of brotherhood, that will seed the consciousness of a new world.

“We are all caught up in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied to a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one affects all…” Martin Luther King, Jr.

This New Moon in Aquarius is an important opportunity to open to the cosmic gifts of the Water-Bearer which are now flooding Planet Earth. As our awareness expands, we can see a higher reality behind the extraordinary events of our turbulent times. Becoming wise thinkers we can receive a new, more transpersonal and comprehensive vision and direction and become agents for positive change. We can come to understand and take responsibility for the important role we each chose to play at this crucial time in the history of our planet. Indeed, the new template for the evolution of consciousness is dependent upon the choices we each make now as individuals and as part of the larger whole. Without the Aquarian power of awakening and illumination our souls and the soul of the world, the Anima Mundi, would remain in darkness.

“Look thou within: within thee is the fountain of good, and it will ever spring if thou wilt ever delve”…. the great Aquarian, Marcus Aurelius

Aquarius is often artistically depicted as an angel, an immortal messenger to mankind from the gods, a perfected being who has liberated self from the limitations of time and space (the orbits of Saturn and Jupiter) so that altruistic concepts can be brought from heaven to earth. Where the New Moon at 9 degrees Aquarius falls in our charts we seek to break free from dogma, convention and social constraints in order to express from our authentic selves. Through the challenges of this area of life we become a “Truth Seeker” and “Truthsayer.” We are learning that truth is reflected in the warm, simple ways of life, in human kindness, consideration and forbearance one to another, the qualities of true brotherhood through love. This is the living water the man is pouring forth from his urn onto the parched earth to enlighten all people.

“Truth is simple, but because it is so simple, it is hidden from powerful intellects, or those who play with words; but it is revealed to the loving heart.” White Eagle

Venus (conjunct Chiron) in Pisces is square (90 degrees) Saturn in Sagittarius and this New Moon in Aquarius is at the sensitive midpoint of these two planets. These energies can heighten our awareness and understanding of the necessary breakdown and decay of the old order and the genesis of a more enlightened and egalitarian world. They reflect the urgent readiness of our soul and the soul of the world to incorporate humanitarian ideals, the consciousness of oneness, into our lives. We are indeed privileged to be on the earth plane at this exciting, challenging and pivotal time. The pressure is on us to unite with those who share our ideals and visions (Aquarius). It is time to reorient our relationships (Venus) by healing our wounds (Chiron) and building new foundations (Saturn) based upon spiritual law (Sagittarius).

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon at 9 degrees Aquarius: “A flag turned into an eagle.”

The flag is the symbol of loyalty to our principles. The eagle is thought to fly closer to the sun than any other bird and is the expression of divine majesty, of the victory of our higher nature. Dante calls the eagle the bird of God. The constellation of the Eagle is placed just above the man carrying the water pot of Aquarius. Now is an optimum time to find ways to allow our ideals of equality, brotherhood and love to take flight in all the undertakings of our daily lives.

“Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Walk beside me that we may be as one.” Ute Indian proverb
