HW Activity: Write a poem about all the dumb things a person might say to a person who has broken up with their girlfriend of boyfriend and explain why these saying offer no comfort. Or you could write about what people say to each other when they experience another type of loss. Make sure you end your poem with a concluding statement expressing your thoughts and opinions on these cliché expressions people say to those in pain. (Perhaps try to use an anaphora or refrain in this poem to create unity of thought.) (Minimum if 7-10 lines)

HW Activity: Think of a moment in your life that is vivid in your memory. What feelings does this moment stir up? Think about the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells associated with this memory. Write a poem about this memory imitating the author’s style. The poem is 14 lines and most of the lines have 5 accented syllables. The author also uses the repetition of the phrase “I can remember.” Try to make your poem a similar style only using your memories for details.
