Penn Manor Middle School/9th Grade Football

Information and Off-Season Calendar

  • All incoming 9th graders should make every attempt to attend the strength and conditioning sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Incoming 7th and 8th graders are also invited and encouraged to attend. These sessions will be for all players in grades 7-9. The Wednesday evening workouts are for the entire football program. It will be a great way for your sons to learn from the varsity staff and players.
  • Summer workouts are an opportunity to become better football players. Players, please take advantage of the opportunities provided for you. Parents, please make every effort to arrange transportation for your kids.
  • We are fully understanding of the fact that families will take vacations and that many of you play other sports during the summer. We have no problem with that at all. But if you aren’t on vacation, and if you don’t have a game scheduled in another sport that conflicts with our workouts, please make every effort to attend.
  • Our weight room and conditioning sessions will make you better wrestlers, baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, and basketball players. Don’t use another sport as an excuse to avoid these workouts.
  • Please note the dates to obtain a physical through the school. If you get a physical through your own doctor you MUST take the proper P.I.A.A. paperwork to your doctor. All physicals must be scheduled AFTER June 1 and should be handed in when you get your equipment in August. (I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to have your physical completed on time. PLEASE make sure this gets done.)
  • Incoming 7th/8th graders should contact Coach Steve Weidner if you need additional information: (808-5713)
  • Incoming 9th graders should contact Coach Streeter Stuart if you need additional information: (871-0307)
  • All players, if you have friends who are thinking about playing football but are “on the fence”, please encourage them to play and feel free to pass along my contact info to anyone interested.
  • Please note on the calendar that official practices for the 9th grade and middle school teams begin on Aug 15. Please make every effort to have all vacations in by this point so that we can have all players available on day one of practice.
  • Additional information will be given to students as it becomes available. In past years we have participated in a 7-on-7 tournament in the summer and will do so again if enough players can participate.
  • More detailed information concerning the season will be given out at equipment handouts in August.
  • Parents, please realize that our success as a team requires a full commitment from your sons from Aug 15 until our last game at the end of October. Please make every effort to schedule teeth cleanings, routine doctor visits, and vacations before or after the season.
  • Please regularly visit the Penn Manor football website for information about the team: pennmanorcometsfootball.com
  • On the website, we are asking all players to “sign up” by filling out the contact information form. It is very important that we have an idea of how many players will be participating so we can make sure we have sufficient equipment ordered for all players, and that we have your contact info so that we can get important information out to you.

A Note Concerning 9th Grade and Middle School Football

As many of you have likely heard, some changes have been made regarding the 9th grade and Middle School football teams. The football staff has discussed these changes for a number of years and will implement the changes for the 2017 football season. Basically, here’s what you need to know:

  • All players in grades 7-9 will practice together at the high school.
  • Players will be coached by both the 9th grade and middle school coaching staffs.
  • Freshman football games will be played on Wednesdays. Our games will still be played at the turf field at the high school. Current 9th grade head coach Streeter Stuart will be in charge of the team for these Wednesday games. It is possible (as we have done in other years), that some 8th graders will play in these Wednesday games.
  • Middle School games will still be held, usually on Thursdays, at Marticville Middle School. Current middle school coach Steve Weidner will still be in charge of the team for these Thursday games. It is possible that a 9th grader who receives very limited playing time on a Wednesday game will have the opportunity to play in the Thursday game.
  • We do NOT see a scenario where we would have a 7th grader ever play in the Wednesday freshman games.
  • Middle School players will be bused to the high school each day for practice. Parents will pick their sons up at the high school. Lockers will be available to store all of their football equipment at the high school.
  • Freshman players will generally watch film and lift weights with a member of the coaching staff on Thursdays when the middle school is playing. We do not anticipate many players ever being asked to participate in both games. No player, regardless of grade, will play on Thursday games if they played a meaningful number of plays on Wednesday.
  • While players will do many drills as an entire 7-9 unit, we do not see any scenario where 7th graders will ever be asked or required to engage in “live” blocking or tackling drills against any 9th grade player.
  • The football staff believes that the changes being implemented for the upcoming season are beneficial for many reasons. Please feel free to contact any member of the coaching staff if you have any additional questions concerning these changes.
  • Any middle school players interested in playing in the Penn Manor Junior Comet program and have questions about that organization should contact PMJC President Jim Keck at (490-0470) or “A team” coach Joel Boas at (725-5993)
