TOLEDO HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE 2010 WATERFRONT FESTIVAL JULY 10 & 11

Maumee Bay State Park Saturday, 10a.m. - 8p.m. Sunday10a.m. – 6 p.m.

Dear Artist/Crafter:

We hope you will be an artist/crafter exhibiting at the 2010 Toledo Lighthouse Festival.

The Toledo Lighthouse Society is an all volunteer 400 member nonprofit 501c3 organization whose mission is to Promote and Restore the architecturally unique Toledo Lighthouse with a rolled steel roof and Romesque design. The primary fund raiser is the Toledo Lighthouse Waterfront Festival featuring island music with the Bonker/ Beachboys Music, the Toledo School for Performing Arts /Steel Drums both days, Lee Murdock/Great Lakes & The Lady of Old Maumee Bay, A Magician/ Clown both days,& Jimmy Buffet/ tropical music. Thousands will attend the 7th annual Toledo Lighthouse Festival – the regions/ Great Lakes premier waterfront lighthouse festival.

People come to the festival to listen to the music, stroll along the walkway, watch people making sand castles with Lake Erie in the background, visit the nautical and unique arts and crafts, enjoy a perch sandwich, sample and vote for your favorite clam chowder, childrens rides, Toft’s Ice Cream & more.

This is a celebration and promotion of the Historic Toledo Lighthouse built in 1904. The Toledo Lighthouse is located about five miles off the shore of Maumee Bay State Park and is visible from shore on most days. The Lighthouse marks the Toledo shipping channel, where boats are guided from Lake Erie thru MaumeeBay to the Maumee River. The six story 4000 square foot buff brick Romanesque lighthouse design includes a steel roof built like a ship’s upside down hull. The phantom of the Toledo Lighthouse is located in the third story window. A screen writer is working on working on a movie at the lighthouse. Festival funds and grants help with lighthouse restoration and access. Funds raised have: relocated the original Toledo Lighthouse Fresnel Lens to the lobby at MaumeeBay State Park; provided the match for grants to prepare renovation plans and specifications; helped to fund the boat dock, ramp, and lift. In 2006 the Toledo Lighthouse Society took ownership of the Lighthouse. The Duket Architectural firm is preparing plans and specification for lighthouse restoration. We need your help to continue the progress to preserve and restore the Toledo Lighthouse. All proceeds, net of festival costs, go toward historic preservation, restoration and access for the lighthouse. The Society is a nonprofit 501c3 tax exempt organization headquartered at Maumee Bay State Park’s Lodge.

The festival is listed in area wide and lighthouse event calendars. Local listings will start the month before the festival. Ads begin the week before the festival. Attendance at the festival continues to grow. Artists/Crafters in 2009 gave very high marks to the festival.

To keep with the ‘spirit of the festival’, all artists/crafters are asked to include a nautical theme in their display. The artists/crafters area is located off the shores of the inland lake with a view of the Maumee Bay/Lake Erie beach. All exhibits are outside near parking and festival activities. You can pull up a vehicle to unload. Toledo Harbor Lighthouse items are encouraged. Each display area is 15’ x15’ and is $35 before June 1, and $40 after. Preregistration is required. There is security Saturday evening, but exhibitor responsibility lies with the crafter.

The artists/crafters area will be carefully screened to maintain the integrity and quality of all art/crafts exhibited. At least 2/3 of the exhibit must be done by the exhibitor. I hope that you will join us as an artist/crafter at this historic lighthouse festival. If you have any questions, please call at 419-691-3273.

Sincerely,

Peggy Welsh

Arts/Crafts Chairman
