HOWMWORK:

Homework is a daily student responsibility, and is necessary to learn and fine tune problem solving skills. For the normal student, it is essential to work homework problems several times, and review these problems before each exam, or quiz. Before starting each homework assignment, the student should copy sample problems from the lecture notes on to a piece of notebook paper, and solve them. After working these problems, the student should compare their solution with the solution contained within the lecture notes, if this process generates questions, the please share the questions with the course instructor during your next visit to office hours. After solving the sample problems, the student should then start the homework assignment. Homework assignments listed on the last page of the course syllabus. Homework assignments are due at the beginning of the lecture period on Tuesday, as per the schedule listed on the course syllabus. Solutions to the assigned homework problems will be postedon the course website after they are collected, therefor-late homework cannot be accepted. Expect graded homework to be returned the following week in lab. A good idea is to photocopy your homework before handing it in and compare the photocopiedassignment with the homework key posted on the course website. All homework papers should include all of your work for maximum credit, with square boxes around the answer.

QUIZZES

Quizzes will be given each week, except for week one, covering the homework from the previous week, the last thirty minutes, or so, of the period on Friday. Note: there will be no quiz makeups this quarter.

EXAMINATIONS

Two midterms and a cumulative final examination. See the lecture schedule for tentative dates. Note: There will be no midterm makeups this quarter but the score of the final exam may be substituted for the missing midterm score, if there is a valid excused absence.

LABORATORY

The Tentative Weekly Schedule below lists this quarters laboratory experiments. For each experiment, students should complete the pre-laboratory document and turn it in when you walk into lab. Completed lab reports sheet will be turned in the following week again when you walk into the laboratory. There will be no make-up laboratory sessions, since there is extensive set-up and preparation required by the laboratory staff. Only one missed laboratory experiment will be allowed in order to pass the class. Be sure to bring your laboratory manual to lab class each week and record all measurements and observations in ink and to have your laboratory manual signed by the instructor before leaving the laboratory. Laboratory manuals can be purchased at the Copy Center, BE 3105A, for about #5.
