RESOLUTION

R16-31

Mrs. Remondet proposed and Mr. Wright seconded the following resolution:

THE ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY RESOLVES:

A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A FLOOD PROTECTION COMMITTEE OF THE COUNCIL FOCUSED ON THE DESIGNING, PERMITTING, FINANCING AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE WESTSHORE FLOOD PROTECTION SYSTEM.

WHEREAS, St. John the Baptist is vulnerable to flooding from both tropical systems and high tides and strong wind events; and

WHEREAS, the Army Corps of Engineers has approved a Chief’s Report for the Westshore Lake Pontchartrain Flood Protection System to protect the east banks of St. John, St. Charles, and St. James Parishes; and

WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the Westshore Project will be included in the Water Resources and Development Act of 2016; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary for the St. John Parish Council and Administration to work with our non-federal (CPRA, PLD, St. Charles and St. James Parishes) and federal (Army Corps of Engineers) partners to design, permit, finance, and construct the Westshore Flood Protection System.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. John the Baptist Parish Council that:

Section 1: The Council hereby establishes a Flood Protection Committee of the Council focused on the designing, permitting, financing, and construction of the Westshore Flood Protection System.

The above resolution having been submitted to a vote; the vote thereon was as follows:

YEAS: Sorapuru, Becnel, Remondet, Madere, Perrilloux, Wright, Snyder,

Boe

NAYS: None ABSENT: Hotard ABSTAINING: None

The result of the vote on the resolution was 8 YEAS, 0 NAYS, 1 ABSENT and 0 ABSTAINING and this ordinance was declared adopted on the 10th day of May , 2016.
