Cornish Businesses Reach National Tourism Award Finals
Three Cornish tourism businesses have reached the finals of the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2011 putting them amongst the best in the country and highlighting the quality of Cornwall’s tourism industry.
The daily changing seafood menu at the Porthminster Café has earned the St Ives based restaurant a place in the finals for the Taste of England Award. Michael Smith, Partner and Chef, comments: “We are absolutely thrilled to reach the finals and to represent Cornwall in such coveted and high-profile awards. Recognition such as this not only showcases Porthminster Beach Café as a business but also demonstrates the impressive quality of the county’s foodie offering which adds to Cornwall’s attractiveness as a year-round destination.”
Combining luxury, tranquillity and sustainability with a strong local and European buying policy, the RED Hotels group which comprises of The Scarlet and Bedruthan Steps Hotel, is up for the Sustainable Tourism Award. Whilst Cornwall is represented in the Best Tourism Experience category by Marazion’s surf vacation company, Global Boarders.
Malcolm Bell, Head of Tourism at VisitCornwall, the Cornwall Development Company tourism service, welcomed news of Cornwall’s triple entry in the Award finals: “As a destination Cornwall is often named top of surveys and boasts a credible list of award titles but businesses are the backbone of the industry and are to key to Cornwall’s success and popularity. I am proud to see the county represented at a national level and to have one Cornish finalist let alone three is truly impressive. I wish them the best of luck for the Award ceremony in April.”
All three companies have already won Gold Awards in their respective categories in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards and the Cornwall Tourism Awards which qualified them to go through to the national awards. They now await 15th April when the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence winners will be announced at the Great Hall in Birmingham.
