OMAK PARK BOARD

MEETING MINUTES

March 8, 2011

CALL TO ORDER:

Commissioner Sarah Grooms called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. for Chairperson Billie Holden who was unable to attend.

MINUTES:

Commissioner Nattalie Cariker made a motion to approve the Park Board Minutes from October 28, 2011 meeting, seconded by Commissioner Orlando Gonzalez. Motion carried.

Dalton Klessig Park fencing:

Commissioner Cariker obtained a price quote from Home Depot on 680 feet of vinyl fencing for the north and east side of the park. The cost of the fence was $18,839.51 dollars. Mary Henrie was concerned on putting up a fence on the east side of the park because Family Medical Clinic has purchased property next to the park. Mary Henrie would like the park and clinic vegetation to flow into each other. Lighting in the park was discussed on how many lights and what kind but no consensus was obtained. Barbara Wallace from Amedisys Hospice Service still request plaques to be placed on the fence or someplace in the park. Barbara stated they have funds to purchase the items they need for their plaques. Mary Henrie stated she was concerned Dalton Klessig Park will be forgotten if Hospice places their memorial park idea there. It was discussed Dalton Klessig Park would keep its name regardless of what else is added to the park. The park board members were invited to a meeting the following month at the Breadline with Mary Henrie and Tree Board members to discuss specifically the fence and lighting at Dalton Klessig Park.

Rick Duck-Omak High School Softball:

Rick Duck, Christopher Werner, and Pat Harrisbrought in a sketch of a new proposal to the East Side Park “Omak Athletic Complex”. The proposal is attached to the minutes. Rick Duck explained how their new proposal would better utilize space. The field arrangements would be user friendly and safer. It was discussed the growth of Omak youth and adult use of the fields and the need to expand and or utilize the field space better. Jim Miller advised the cities plan for the East Side Park is to hold the sporting events. It was discussed how the community and city could find money or volunteer services to construct the proposal. Rick Duck, Christopher Werner, and Pat Harris were asked to return to April 12 park board meeting to further discuss their proposal.

Commissioner Sarah Grooms adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be April 12, 2011.
