General description

Bellman baby cry transmitter will alert people with up to profound deafness to their baby crying. It's fully portable, wireless and comes with three different sensitivity settings that you can control as your baby gets older. You can also choose how long the sound is detected for before you're alerted.

Items supplied with the Visit Baby Monitor

  • Baby monitor
  • 2 x 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries (pre-inserted)
  • Pre-mounted table stand (attached to unit)
  • Screw and wall plug

Orientation

Front

The front of the baby monitor is smooth with two LED’s at the top just above centre.

Left edge

There are two rectangular buttons on the left hand edge which are the test/setting buttons.

Right edge

The right edge has a socket near the top where you can insert an external trigger (not included). This could be a Bellman 868 contact mat for example to alert you when your child gets out of bed.

There is a smaller hole above this socket which is the internal microphone.

Back

On the reverse of the unit you’ll find near the top left a key hole shapes hold. This is the wall mount hook if you are using the screws to wall mount the unit. To the right of this is the speaker grill.

There is a stand already attached so that it can stand on a work top. Remove this before removing the front face. To re-install align the holes in the stand with the two raised dots on the back ensuring that the squared off section of the stand below the dots is towards the bottom edge of the unit.

Bottom edge

At the bottom there is a slightly raised tab. If you feel towards the back of the unit where this tab ends, you can pull this tab up towards the front. This levers off the front face revealing the batteries, the signal switches and the radio key switches.

Inside the unit

Inside the unit once the front cover has been removed are the 2 batteries located on the right (pre-inserted). To the left of the batteries running horizontally and centrally is a row of small signal switches and radio key switches.

Using the product

Setting up the baby monitor

Remove the battery pull tab to start the unit.

Place the baby monitor on the bedside table or mount it on the wall using the supplied screw and plug. The recommended distance is 0.5 – 2 m from the child but it must always be out of reach from the child.

You can press and hold both test buttons for 3 seconds until you see the LEDs come on for a second or so to turn it off to preserve battery; you may not want it on in the day. To turn it back on, press and hold both test buttons for 1 second until the LED lights back up.

Testing the connection

Using the test button

Press both test buttons simultaneously on the baby monitor. The top LED lights up in green to show that a radio signal is being transmitted.

The orange LED on your existing receiver lights up to show that the signal was received. In addition it starts to sound, flash or vibrate depending on the receiver (receiver not included).

Please note: If you have changed the signal pattern, it will react in accordance with your settings. Please see changing the signal pattern section.

Using your voice

Stand by the baby monitor and make some noise. The top LED lights up in green to show that the sound was detected.

The orange LED on your existing receiver lights up to show that the radio signal was received. In addition it starts to sound, flash or vibrate depending on the receiver.

Please note: If you have changed the signal pattern, it will react in accordance with your settings. Please see changing the signal pattern section.

Adjusting the settings

The buttons for sensitivity and delay are located on the left side of the baby monitor. When you press the buttons, the corresponding LED colour shows the current setting. Then press repeatedly to adjust the setting.

Notes to consider are:

  • If the baby monitor is not activated when the baby cries – increase the sensitivity.
  • If the baby monitor is activated too easily – reduce the sensitivity.
  • If the baby monitor is activated too early or too late – adjust the delay

Sensitivity settings

To adjust the sensitivity settings use the button at the top on the left side to go through the following cycle:

  • Red LED - 65db plus – high sensitivity
  • Orange LED - 75db plus – medium sensitivity
  • Green LED - 85db plus – low sensitivity

When you get to the LED you want, stop clicking through the options.

Delay settings

To adjust the delay settings so that the transmitter is slower to send an alert when the baby cries, use the button at the bottom on the left side to go through the following cycle:

  • Red LED - 30 seconds delay
  • Orange LED - 10 seconds delay
  • Green LED - 1 second delay

When you get to the LED you want, stop clicking through the options.

Default signal pattern

When the baby monitor is activated by the baby’s voice or the external trigger e.g. a Bellman 868 contact mat (not included), the following happens:

  • The LED on the baby monitor lights up green to show that it is signalling the receiver.
  • The LED on your receiver (not included) lights up in orange and it starts to sound, flash or vibrate with a certain pace. This is called the signal pattern. The baby monitor and the contact mat accessory determine the signal pattern. The default is as follows:

If the baby is the source of the transmission, the top LED will light up green. The receiver will light up orange, a baby melody sound will be produced, a fast vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

If the external trigger like the contact mat (not included) is the source of the transmission, the bottom LED will light up green. The receiver will light up green, a low “ding dong” sound will be produced, a slow vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

Changing the signal pattern

If you have more than one child, you can set a unique LED pattern for each baby monitor.

Please note: A separate baby transmitter must be used for each baby and a maximum of 4 can be connected only.

To change the signal pattern so that you know which baby monitor has been activated, open the front cover and move any signal switch to the up, this will be the on position for that switch, and make sure the other switches are down, meaning off. See below the recommended setting for multiple baby monitors and the result:

Baby monitor one

For baby monitor 1 have switch 1 up and the rest down.

If the baby monitor is the source of the transmission the receiver will light up orange, a baby melody sound will be produced, a fast vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

If an external trigger (not included) is the source of the transmission, the receiver will light up green, a baby melody sound will be produced, a slow vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

Baby monitor two

For baby monitor 2 have switch 2 up and the rest down.

If the baby monitor is the source of the transmission the receiver will blink orange twice, a baby melody sound will be produced, a fast vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

If an external trigger (not included) is the source of the transmission, the receiver will blink green twice, a baby melody sound will be produced, a slow vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

Baby monitor three

For baby monitor 3 have switch 3 up and the rest down.

If the baby monitor is the source of the transmission the receiver will blink orange three times, a baby melody sound will be produced, a fast vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

If an external trigger (not included) is the source of the transmission, the receiver will blink green three times, a baby melody sound will be produced, a slow vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

Baby monitor four

For baby monitor 4 have switch 4 up and the rest down.

If the baby monitor is the source of the transmission the receiver will blink orange, a baby melody sound will be produced, a fast vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

If an external trigger (not included) is the source of the transmission, the receiver will blink green, a baby melody sound will be produced, a slow vibration pattern will be activated and there will be flashing.

Changing the radio keyand pairing

If your system is activated for no reason, there is probably a nearby system that is falsely triggering yours. In order to avoid radio interference you need to change the radio key on all your transmitters and then pair your receivers to that radio key. The radio key switches are located under the monitor cover.

To change the radio key, carefully remove the table stand and open the front cover on the baby monitor (as per orientation). Now move any radio key (any of the 6 switches nearest the batteries) switch to the up/on position to change the radio key.

Press and hold the test/function button on your existing receiver until the green and yellow LEDs blink alternately. Release the button.

Now press both test buttons simultaneously on the baby monitor within 30 seconds to send the new radio key. All LEDs on your receiver will blink 5 times to show that the radio key has been changed. It will then return to normal mode.

Please note: All Visit units must be set to the same radio key in order to operate as a group.

Changing the batteries

Open the unit as per the orientation. The battery compartment is on the right inside. The 2 x AA 1.5V alkaline batteries insert with the left battery positive side towards the bottom, and vice versa for the battery on the right of the compartment. Once inserted, replace the unit’s cover by aligning the bottom raised tab that you used to open the unit with the bottom, and then levering the cover down until it clicks back into place.

Troubleshooting

The LEDs blink in orange every minute

  • Replace the batteries. Only use 1.5 V AA (LR6) lithium or alkaline batteries.

The baby monitor LED lights up in green but the receiver is not activated

  • Check the baby monitor batteries and the receiver batteries and connections.
  • Move the receiver closer to the baby monitor to make sure it’s within range.
  • Check that the units are set to the same radio key, see Changing the radio key.

The baby monitor LED doesn’t light up even though the baby is crying

  • Move the baby monitor closer to the baby or increase the microphone sensitivity, see Adjusting the settings.
  • Important note: Always make sure the baby monitor is out of the child’s reach. Never place the baby monitor in the child’s crib or playpen.

The baby monitor is activated too easily

  • Reduce the sensitivity or move the baby monitor further away from the crib, see Adjusting the settings.

The baby monitor is activated too early

  • Increase the delay. For more information, see Adjusting the settings.

The baby monitor is activated too late

  • Reduce the delay, see Adjusting the settings.

The receiver is activated for no apparent reason

  • There is probably another Visit system installed nearby that triggers your system. Change the radio key on all units, see Changing the radio key.
