October 2013

We are fast approaching the end of another busy term. The weather has remained reasonable so football coaching has taken part outside every week.

Miss Kate Reid has been appointed to provide cover in class to allow me management time. I hope that Miss Reid will be able to start after the October break, initially for 3 days a week up until Christmas. After that her days will alternate between 2 and 3 per week.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success and as well as some free books for the school we raised £75 to use towards more books for the school

Shelterbox Competition

At the end of last session the pupils in P4-7 took part in a competition to illustrate the pages of the new Shelterbox book to be published in November called The Day the Bombs Fell. Although we didn’t have a winner we received 5 Highly Commended certificates. Ray Walker of Oldmeldrum Rotary Club presented the certificates and badges to Ocean Williams, Morgan Creighton and Calum Price.

Former pupils Hannah Bougourd and Rachael Lawson also received certificates.

Formartine Beginning to Blossom

The awards ceremony was held on Thursday 26th September and we were again awarded a Gold Certificate. Aidan and Lucy Sharp and Calum Smith were there to collect our certificate from Carol Baxter of the BeechgroveGarden.

Harvest Thanksgiving

Our end of term Harvest Thanksgiving Assembly is on Friday 11th October at 2pm in the school hall. All family and friends are invited. Children are also invited to bring a contribution for the harvest display – dried goods or fresh fruit and vegetables. These will again be donated to the Aberdeen Cyrenians.

Eco Day

As part of our work for our 4th Green Eco Flag, the Eco group are organising an Eco Day in conjunction with the RHS Get Your Grown Ups Gardening project. The date for this will be Thursday 31st October and parents are invited to come along and help us in the school grounds and take part in some fun activities. There will be more information later but please put this date in your diaries.

Let’s Grow Vouchers

We are again collecting Morrison’s Let’s Grow vouchers which we can use to buy gardening items.

Family Ceilidh Evening

Our P6 and 7 pupils have been working with P6 and 7 pupils from CultercullenSchool on an enterprise project, while the P4 and 5 pupils have been attending swimming lessons. They have been planning a family ceilidh on Saturday 23rd November in the Dr Spence Memorial Hall, Udny Green from 7pm till 10pm. Some details have still to be finalised but again we hope you will put this date in your diaries.

Rotary Shoeboxes

Along with many other schools in the cluster, we will again be collecting items to pack into Rotary Shoeboxes. A list is attached. You do not need to provide the shoebox as the Rotary Club provides these. Items can be sent in anytime until the middle of November when the boxes are packed up and sent off to reach poor children across Europe in time for Christmas.
