2017 SUMMER SCHOOL OF TRUTH

Information sheet for Junior High and Senior High

1.  The first week of the SST will begin on the Lord's Day evening, July 23. Junior highers, please come to the Chicago hall to sign-in beginning at 5:30 pm for a 7:00 start. (No dinner will be served, so eat before you come). High Schoolers, please report to the Streamwood meeting hall by 5:30 pm for a 7:00 pm first meeting. The Chicago junior high session will end on Thursday the 28th at 1:30 pm after lunch and clean-up. The Streamwood session will also end on Thursday, though later around 7:30 pm. Please be on time for the registration!

2.  The cost for the 2 sessions is $300 for all junior high and high school students. If you only attend the first week, the cost is $100. You must attend the first week in order to go to the camp, unless you have had specific fellowship with the Chicago serving ones in advance. Serving ones pay $30 for week 1, and $140 if attending the camp ($170 if both). Make checks payable to your local church. We try to keep the cost down, and this is still a very good price for a camp. However, if these costs present a hardship to your family, PLEASE fellowship your need with your local church and serving ones. We want everyone to go to camp Also, serving ones please fill out a registration form online and register so we know who is coming, http://www.tinyurl.com/2017ssot. No need for medical form.

3.  ACTIVITY MONEY & GAS MONEY. The costs shown above include everything except spending money at camp. So whereas we once collected activity fees each week and gas money for drivers, this year, both of these are now covered in the registration fees.

4. SPENDING MONEY $$$: At Camp Grow you may need some money for “personal” snacks. Also, on the way home from the camp, you will need lunch money. We provide all other snacks and meals, so the most you would need is about $15. The camp provides a “bank” for your money. You turn in your cash to the “banker” and you can go and get cash when you need it.

5. First week. We will be staying in homes or at the hall in both Chicago and Streamwood. Bring your own pillow and bedding material such as a sleeping bag or light blanket. You may be given a bed or perhaps a foam mattress. Usually, you would want a twin fitted sheet to cover the foam mattress. Bring 2 towels, a swimsuit, your guitar, clothes for 3 and 1/2 days and your Bible.

6. Camp Grow in Wisconsin. Reversing last year’s order: the brothers will go to camp on Saturday 7/29. Plan to be at camp by 2 pm. Bring a sack lunch. The brothers will stay until noon on Wednesday….then the sisters come to camp around noon on Weds and stay until noon Saturday August 5th. Transportation is primarily the responsibility of the parents. Serving ones do our best to arrange rides, BUT PARENTS PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO DRIVE!

7. WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP GROW??: Recovery version Bible (try to bring an older "used" copy or one of the NT hardbound copies) ____ Swimming suit ___ 2 Towels ___ Clothes for 4 days at camp____. An extra pair of older “tennis shoes”, or sneakers for wearing in the lake and the waterfront__. PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING!!

Some things are optional... flashlight ___ bug spray___ sun screen ____ guitar. We have fishing poles and supplies so don’t bring those. Please pack in small bags, not BIG suitcases! No need for a songbook.... we have those for both sessions.

8. SHEETS AND PILLOWS NEEDED AT CAMP GROW . At Camp Grow, you will get a bed with a mattress. Please bring a “fitted” bottom sheet ___, a top sheet ___ and a small pillow ___. You may bring a small sleeping bag, but usually a blanket is good enough, but don’t forget to bring a sheet to cover the mattress.

9. CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS. During all meetings, we require long pants or pants that go below the knee. No shorts in the meetings. You will be able to wear shorts at all other times. We do not allow any “tank tops”, mini skirts, short-shorts, or sleeveless shirts (that includes the boys). Please do not bring tops with inappropriate slogans or pictures. Shirts need a short sleeve, and no bare bellies. Girls should wear modest tops. No lowcut tops! Anyone with inappropriate clothing will be asked to change, or we will give you a shirt to wear over your clothing. Also, please put your name on all your clothing items.

Girl's swimsuits: Camp Grow does not allow 2 piece bathing suits. The girls must have a one-piece swimsuit or wear a jersey or T-shirt over their swimsuit.

10 WHAT NOT TO BRING!!!!: Do not bring any books, games, comic magazines, knives, water guns or fireworks. No electronic devices of any type, (IPADS, smart phones or computer games) are allowed during the two weeks or during the rides to and from camp. Leave them at home! Every year people disregard this rule and we have to "hold" things until the end of camp. Serving ones have phones if there is a necessity or emergency. Parents, please do not “require” your child to have a cell phone…they are a big distraction in many ways.

11 REMEMBER THE PURPOSE OF THIS TIME!!! We love the Lord Jesus. We rejoice to be called into His economy and to participate in His full salvation. We always have a lot of fun during the summer school and at Camp Grow. However, the primary purpose of this time is to gain the Lord Jesus in the Word and to experience Him, with the saints!

All registrations & payments should be given to your local serving ones, in your local church. Only those who meet in Chicago should give them to Shawn and Amy Both. Churches: Please designate a “registrar” in your locality to collect forms and payments.

Keep this information sheet, but return the Registration and Health History Form .

Parents: Please pray for this time with our young people!

Register by July 9th!

Biblical Principles of Clothing

Covering

Before the fall clothing was not needed. Adam and Eve were probably clothed with light. They were innocent. Although they both were naked, they were not ashamed. After sin came in, the first effect was the opening of their eyes to see their nakedness. Immediately they felt ashamed and sewed fig leaves to make themselves aprons.10 Thus, after the fall nakedness became a matter of shame (John 21:2-4, 7; Rev.

3:18; 16:15).

Hence, the first principle of clothing is that clothes are for covering. The aprons which Adam and Eve made of fig leaves could not have lasted long, for the leaves would soon dry and break into pieces. God therefore clothed Adam and Eve with longer lasting coats of skin. His purpose was to cover man's body. Clothing is for covering. Once man sinned, he needed to be covered before God. This covering is an absolute necessity. As Christians, we have no ground on which to stand before God unless the Lord wholly covers us.

The trend to expose more and more of the body is of the world and violates God's original thought. To expose man's body distracts man from his spirit to his flesh and thus keeps him from fulfilling God's purpose. According to the first principle of clothing, it is better to be adequately covered. If an article of clothing does not cover, a Christian should not wear it. Clothes which expose rather than cover should not be used. They are against the principle of covering and are therefore unsuitable for believers. 11

Keeping Female Modesty

First Timothy 2:9 and 10 say, “Similarly, that women adorn themselves in proper clothing with modesty and sobriety, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly clothing, but what befits women professing godly reverence, by good works.” Here, the Greek work rendered “modesty” literally means shamefastness, i.e. bound or made fast by an honorable shame. It implies not being forward or overbold, but being moderate, observing the proprieties of womanhood.

Clothing in Greek implies deportment, demeanor. Clothing is the main sign of a sister's demeanor, and it must befit her saintly position. Modesty is the leading female virtue. It emphasizes the difference between male and female. To be modest and have an honorable shame is a great safeguard and protection to a female. All the sisters in the church life should have the virtue of modesty, and should dress according to the principle of modesty. This principle does not allow the exposure of one's body. For a woman to expose her body is to go against the principle of modesty. To be unduly exposed is to be without protection, and lack of protection can open the way for fornication. The sisters must always remember that they are females. As females it is necessary for them to be covered. 13
