Job Title: Lecturer in Audio & Electronic Engineering
School/Department: School of Computing and Technology
Responsible to: Head of School of Computing and Technology / Post No:
Grade 6/7
Location: Ealing
SUMMARY OF MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To teach on an appropriate mix of undergraduate and postgraduate Applied Sound Engineering and Electronic Engineering courses within the School of Computing and Technology at UWL commensurate with technical knowledge and prior experience.
To contribute to consultancy, research, knowledge transfer and/or commercial training in appropriate sub-discipline(s) within the engineering field.
To undertake course leadership to nominated course(s) depending on grade of appointment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 / To teach on BSc (Hons) and future MSc Applied Sound Engineering and BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses & modules offered by the subject group as required, specifically in the sub-disciplines of:
·  Audio System Design,
·  Audio Electronics,
·  Digital Signal Processing for Audio.
2 / As a member of the teaching team, to contribute to the development and delivery of learning opportunities for our students. This will involve:
o  developing and using appropriate teaching methods and learning resources as necessary,
o  undertaking whatever examination and assessment preparation and marking may be required by the teaching programme,
o  undertaking evaluation of the teaching and learning experience,
o  undertaking administrative duties associated with the management of the University and its teaching programmes as necessary.
3 / To undertake course leadership to nominated course(s) depending on grade of appointment.
4 / To contribute to new programme developments as necessary, including the development and delivery of commercial education and training.
5 / To keep abreast of relevant technical development and to undertake self-development by participation in the University staff appraisal scheme and in-service training programme, as appropriate.
6 / Depending on grade of appointment, to contribute to approved research, consultancy and knowledge transfer activities either on an individual basis or as part of collaborative projects.
7 / To provide pastoral support for students
8 / To undertake other duties as required by the University commensurate with the post.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

CRITERIA / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Qualifications: / A relevant Master’s degree or equivalent
PG Certificate in HE (or willingness to enrol on PGCHE programme at UWL). / PhD in a relevant field
Member of an appropriate professional body.
Knowledge and Experience: / Current professional / research experience in audio engineering/ electrical and electronic engineering
Experience of teaching or training in Higher Education / Experience of submitting grant applications
Knowledge and/or experience of generating research or industry income.
Experience of module / course management or development.
Specific Skills: / Ability and willingness to work in teaching and curriculum development.
Ability and willingness to contribute to team teaching.
Ability to teach on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in audio engineering/ electrical and electronic engineering.
Practical laboratory skills relevant to the subject area.
Ability to undertake research and consultancy work in a relevant field and to agreed targets. / Evidence of scholarly activity in the form of recent publications.
Evidence of consultancy and/or professional practice.
General Skills: / Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Other: / Self-motivated
Goal/outcome orientated.
Ability to work both independently and as as a member of a team with shared goals.
