A reminder and information about our branch activities during November

Monthly Branch Meeting

·  The Branch meeting in November will be in the Wesley Lounge, corner of Hastings and Eastbourne Streets at 7.30pm on Thursday the 12th. The speaker will be Rod Hansen of DOC in Napier. Rod will talk about Te Angiangi Marine Reserve which was the destination for last month’s Field Trip.

·  The minutes of the October branch meeting are attached.

Monthly Field Trip

·  The November Field Trip will be to Black Birch Ridge on Sunday 15th. This walk offers great views of the Kawekas - see photo – and Bernie tells me there is always pinus contorta along the way to pull if you feel so inclined. Contact trip leader Bernie Bowden on 876 9703 to register.

Poukawa Stream Workday

·  This month the tasks will be releasing the plants and removing hemlock, nettle and convolvulus.

·  Saturday November 7th. Start 8:30am, finish 12 noon. BYO drink, gloves, grubber/fork, rake. Biscuits supplied for morning tea.

·  Gate open 8:20am, closed 8:30am.

·  Register with Linda at: by Thursday 5th.

Our year ends with Bees at Kereru. Learn about bees, make damper and taste the honey on Sunday November 22nd, start time 1:30pm.

Conservation Week

November 1st to 8th is Conservation Week and members of our Branch along with local DOC staff will be at Blowhard Bush on Sunday 8th with a variety of activities. We will be leading guided tours showing off our Bush and DOC will have a number of activities including Geocaching, go to this site for more information www.conservationweek.org.nz

Branch Facebook Page

The Branch has created a Facebook page but we lack someone with the time and skills to keep it up to date. Information can provided by various members for the page. If maintaining the page this sounds like you please reply to this email.

Branch Native Plant Nursery

·  The branch native plant nursery in Tollemache Road still has some ready to plant trees available including: cabbage trees, pittosporum tenuifolium (ohuhu), flaxes (all cookianum), kahikatea, red matipo and pigeon wood. Please reply to this email if you would like any of these plants.

·  If you have plant propagation experience you may enjoy joining the team who gather for just a few a few hours on Tuesdays most weeks at the nursery. If this sounds like you, please reply to this email.

Calendars and Diaries

The 2016 Forest & Bird calendars and diaries will be on sale at the Branch meeting on Thursday 12th , costs $15 and $20 respectively.
