CLASSROOM UPDATE
Our themes through September are School, Friends, and Family. Our reading selections and classroom activities will reflect these themes. We will also discuss the season of autumn during the coming weeks.
We will be busy getting to know each other and our classroom rules and routines. This takes a lot of time and energy, especially the first week. We are all exhausted at the end of the day! The children’s “homework” during this time is to get a good night’s sleep to be ready for each new school day.
You should be hearing about the Germ Gang and Captain Clean soon. These characters will be helping the children learn important health lessons on hand washing.
TEACHING ASSISTANT
The first grade teaching assistant is Mrs. Lucille Scidurlo. Mrs. Scidurlo will help in our classroom, in the cafeteria, and on the playground each day.
SNACK
We have a snack in our classroom every day. This snack is important to help maintain the children’s energy throughout our busy morning. Please pack a snack for your child even if he/she is buying lunch. Snack should include a drink and nutritional foods. No candy, please. Thanks!!!
BIRTHDAYS
If we will celebrate your child’s birthday at school, he/she may bring a treat to share with the class during snack. Non-food items are preferred, but if a snack is being sent to school, finger foods, such as mini soft pretzels, mini cupcakes, cookies, munchkins, are best. We will celebrate summer birthdays in June.
LUNCH MONEY
Please send lunch money in an envelope marked with your child’s name and PIN# in your child’s folder. All money is sent to the cafeteria in the morning to be entered into the computer payment system before lunch. Participation in the “mySchoolBucks” program is highly recommended. This program allows you to add money to your child’s lunch account electronically. Milk is also available for purchase from the cafeteria during lunch.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Back to School Night is Thursday, September 13th. When we meet in the classroom, I will discuss our daily schedule, the first grade curriculum, classroom routines, and homework procedures. Our Homeroom
Parents will also have information about our class parties. Money will be collected toward our class party fund. Hope to see you there!
