VOLUNTEER PLAYWORKER

TASK

·  Support the staff team to provide safe pick up of children from school.

·  Support play staff to provide activities in a safe and interesting playcare environment for children

·  Promote and provide good quality stimulating child centred activities for children

·  Support staff with administrative duties and fundraising where applicable.

PURPOSE OF THE TASK

To assist and support play staff to provide varying suitable and stimulating playcare activities for children and young people under the age of 12 years.

To support and participate in structured and unstructured play and learning activities with children and young people

RANGE OF DUTIES

Assist play staff with:

·  Planning and developing a program of suitable activities both on and off site, activities such as group, individual sports, recreational, cultural and creative.

·  Supervision of children and young people to ensure the safe use of equipment and facility without endangering themselves or other users.

·  Safe escorting and collection of children from school and the safety of children in attendance at the centre and off site.

·  Adhering to the organisations and council’s Equal Opportunity and Diversity Policy.

·  Preparation of refreshments/meals for the children, wash and clear away after each session.

·  Behave in a professional manner at all times whilst on duty and in the present of carers of the children and young people who use the service and ensure that they are encouraged to feel welcome when visiting the project.

TEAM WORK

Participate in staff meeting and any other meetings relevant to this post.

Support the staff team to provide a range of suitable and stimulating playcare activities for children and young people under the age of 12 years

HEALTH & SAFETY

Assist staff:

·  In implementing and carrying out guidelines and procedures restricting certain higher risk activities.

·  By ensuring that Health & safety procedures are carried out at the centre in accordance with the policy of the organisation, informing relevant person of items of concerns where appropriate.

·  Participate in relevant training activities to develop and keep abreast of changes and development in the field of childcare.

·  Follow Health & Safety regulations for the safety and well-being of self and of the children and young people being supervised.

CREATIVE WORK

·  Support play staff in providing play activities using knowledge or skills in the following areas, free play sports, games, Arts and Crafts, educational activities, trips and outings.

·  To assist play staff with setting out and direct the use of various play related equipment.

·  To comply with the organisation’s guidelines and procedure as set out in the organisation’s hand book.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY

·  Support staff with the supervision of children and young people to and from school and at play, or when on outing, trips, holiday etc. as appropriate.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Responsible to the Play Manager or in her/his absence, a designated supervisor.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must be interested in pursuing a career with children and young people

Must have an interest in the welfare of children

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhance Certificate clearance
