Engineering Sponsored Contractors

These instructions apply to contractors working at any Pfizer Kalamazoo site who are sponsored by an Engineering department (construction, trades, service providers, project management, etc). See below for a list of Engineering departments. If the new contractor is sponsored by one of these departments, then they are considered an Engineering contractor.

*** NEW PREREQUISITE – Sponsors/Suppliers Must Read This ***

The ContractorEngineering Training Registration Form (see page 3) must be completed for each new contractor. Sponsors/Suppliers must ensure that this form issubmitted beforethe contractor attends the training described below. Failure to submit this form in advance will result in a delay in issuing the contractor badge.

Process for Obtaining a Badge and Initial On-Site Training

  1. The ContractorEngineering Training Registration Form (see page 3) must be completed for each new contractor and submitted prior to attending the training.
  1. Badges will be issued at the Portage Site Badge Office only. The badge office is located inside the Pfizer B186 Fire Station Building on Romence Road in Portage.
  1. Badges will be issued on Mondays and Thursdays after completion of initial on-site training.
  1. On-site training will be conducted on Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00 AM (no training on Company Holidays). The training will take place at the badge office and may take up to 2 hours to complete. Other training arrangements require pre-approval from Engineering Contractor Training. Contractors may arrive at the badge office at 7:30 AM to begin the badge creation process prior to the training.
  1. After training completion, each contractor will receive their badge and be met by a sponsor representative. Work limitations and additional training requirements identified by Engineering Contractor Training will be communicated as applicable.

General Requirements and Prerequisites

  1. Access requests must be initiated using the Supplier Gateway
  1. Each contractor must satisfy all of the requirements of Pfizer Corporate Procedure #117, available from the Supplier Gateway and the Kalamazoo Contractor Administration (KCA) web site (link to web site), including but not limited to:
  2. Drug and alcohol testing
  3. Background checks and debarment checks
  4. Eligibility to return if the contractor has previously worked at a Kalamazoo site
  1. Each contractor must successfully complete the Contractor Orientation computer-based training (CBT) located on the Kalamazoo Contractor Administration web site (link to CBT).
  2. A score of 100% within 3 attempts is required for successful completion
  3. The training must be completed prior to the access request being approved
  4. Successful completion of this training is required annually to maintain site access

  1. Badges must be obtained within 30 days after approval.
  1. Additional site-specific and area-specific requirements not specified in this document may apply prior to beginning work at any site. Contact the sponsor for details.

Contractor EngineeringTraining Registration FormInformation

The Contractor Engineering Training Registration Form (next page) must be completed for each new contractor. The form must be submittedbefore the contractor attends the on-site training required as part of the on-boarding process.

The form identifies training courses that need to be completed based on the type of workthat the contractor may be performing. The information on this instruction sheet provides guidance for sponsors and suppliers on which training courses to select for each contractor. It also identifies training documentation that the contractor will be expected to supply when they report for training. Please contact the engineering training group if you have questions about specific training or documentation requirements.

Safe Work Permit /General Work

Required for: Contractors involved in construction , maintenance or repair activities. This is the baseline training that is required for most new engineering contractors.

Training Topics: General Safe Work Permit,Hot Work - Type II (using non-rated electrical equipment including electrical or battery operated tools in an electrically classified area). (30 min)

Supplier Provided Training Documentation Prerequisites: None

Safe Work Permit /Complex Work

Required for: Contractors involved in construction , maintenance or repair activities. This is the required for contractors performing more complex work activities including the topics listed below.

Training Topics: General Safe Work Permit (including Hot Work - Type II), Hot Work – Type I (torching, grinding, welding, open flame, x-ray), Confined Space, Lockout-Tagout, Atmospheric monitoring, Fall protection requirements, Fire watch duties (90 min)

Supplier Provided Training Documentation Prerequisites(as applicable): Documentation of supplier provided Lockout Tagout, Confined Space, Hands-On Fire Extinguishertraining received within the last three years. Include documentation with the Contractor Engineering Training Registration form.

Documentation Requirements for Hands-On Fire Extinguisher Training

Required for: Contractors involved in Type I Hot Work activities and Fire Watch attendants

Note:Contractors may not perform Hot Work Type I or Fire Watch Attendant activities without current documentation of Hands-On Fire Extinguisher training.

Supplier Provided Training Documentation Prerequisites: Documentation of supplier provided Hands –On Fire Extinguisher training received within the last three years. Include documentation with the Contractor Engineering Training Registration form.

None of the Above

All new contractors must attend on site orientation training. Complete Section I and Section III of the Registration Form for new contractors who do not require any of the above training based on the work they will be performing on site.

This form must be completed for all new engineering contractors and submitted prior to contractor training. Training is conducted on Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00 AM at the Portage Road Site Badge Office. New contractors will only receive a site access badge upon completion of this training.
