Support and Resettlement Worker

Job Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Responsible for the delivery of the services offered by SPEAR focusing on the brokerage of resettlement accommodation for single homeless people who have slept rough or at risk of sleeping rough.

SALARY:

£22,500 - £24,300

WORKING HOURS:

37.5 hours per week

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Service Delivery

To be responsible for the effective delivery of high quality resettlement support and resettlement services for homeless people

2. Resource Management

To be responsible for the effective utilisation of a range of accommodation options, with a focus on resettling rough sleepers through temporary and supported accommodation into the private rented sector.

3. Casework Management

To work with clients ensuring provision of advice, support, motivation, crisis intervention and future planning, is appropriate to the expressed needs of service users

4. Organisational Responsibilities

To be responsible for contributing to the running of SPEAR’s integrated services for homeless people

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1.  Service Delivery

·  Provide an effective needs led service to clients throughout their engagement with SPEAR, in line with SPEAR’s policies and procedures

·  Deliver effective resettlement services and support to homeless people, including sourcing quality housing in the private rented sector

·  Recruit and build and maintain relationships with local landlords to secure private rented accommodation outcomes for clients, ensuring that identified accommodation is appropriate, safe and promotes well being

2. Resource Management

·  Create and manage effective professional relationships with local authority staff, private landlords and other external agencies SPEAR works in partnership with.

·  Maintain a working knowledge of available resources for clients, signposting and referring as necessary

·  Be responsible for the effective utilisation of a range of accommodation options and accessible services, working within the services’ financial resources.

·  To contribute to the effective use of temporary staging post accommodation to support longer accommodation outcomes.

3. Casework Management

·  Lead on regular reviews of clients’ cases – alongside partner agencies and other SPEAR services

·  Work with clients seeking support or resettlement to assess their needs and identify and work towards individual goals, ensuring an integrated approach towards support

·  Develop positive working relationships with clients in order to facilitate the best possible outcomes and to address issues of social isolation and exclusion

·  Complete the required data entry onto the CHAIN (rough sleeper) database and ensure that other records of work undertaken are maintained as required to enable the performance management of the service

4. Organisational Responsibilities

·  Contribute to regular team meetings

·  Participate in staff management and support systems in line with SPEAR’s policies and procedures

·  Maintain a safe and appropriate physical environment for staff and service users, in line with SPEAR’s Health and Safety Policy

·  Liaise and work with all internal stakeholders to deliver an effective SPEAR wide service

·  Undertake other duties as your line manager should require in keeping with the responsibility of the post

Resettlement Worker

Person Specification

·  Experience working with homeless people or rough sleepers, including key working, care planning and joint working with statutory agencies

·  Understanding of the causes of homelessness and the pathways out of homelessness

·  The ability to work with clients who may display challenging behaviour

·  A thorough knowledge of appropriate legislation, including welfare benefits and housing law

·  The ability to recruit private landlords in order to secure private rented accommodation for ex rough sleepers

·  An ability to represent SPEAR appropriately at all times, work professionally with external agencies and to promote a service to a wide range of audiences

·  Excellent administrative, recording and reporting skills

·  Solid IT skills, including competence with word processing, spreadsheets, databases and email, and the ability to learn how to use new IT applications

·  An understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries

·  An understanding of equal opportunities and how it can be applied within SPEAR

·  An understanding of Health and Safety and an ability to manage the associated requirements practically and professionally

·  Effective time and workload management

This role will require you to work early mornings or late nights in order to conduct outreach shifts.

Use of your own transport would be an advantage.
