Report about the Vaccination Week

Introduction:

The Ministry of Health is currently implementing the Vaccination Regional Week with the aim of protecting children from preventable vaccine diseases and to achieve greater than 90% of the coverage rate at doses of vaccine, in addition to maintaining the National Vaccination Program as a priority to all the decision-makers and partners through the cooperation between all stakeholders to expand the vaccination services and to plan for a mass media campaign targeting all children under the age of five and women of reproductive age.

The ministry of Health is implementing this campaign together with Measles and MMR campaign as a response to the positive measles cases emerged in the last two years.

The focus of this campaign is on the hard to reach areas and districts with low coverage rates of routine vaccination besides districts where positive measles cases emerged.

Justifications for the Campaign:

-Increase the coverage rate of routine vaccination coverage due to the decrease in 2013 and 2014 in the hard to reach areas.

Preparing for the Campaign

In order to reach to most of the children in Syria, Ministry of Health conducted two workshops with the governorates to prepare detailed plan and determines the needs of each vaccine and ways to reach the hard to reach areas.

The target of children under the age of five for the vaccination week is: 2,670,937 children distributed in all the Syrian governorates and vaccinated 774,474 children in Measles and MMR, and 26,149 dropout's children with routine vaccines.

The number of vehicles using in the campaign is (506 vehicle) to transfer the vaccines and the mobile teams to all districts in Syria.

-The number of health workers participated in the campaign within the fixed health centers are (4110Health workers).

-The number of health workers within the mobile teams are (1491 health worker)

*All workers have been well trained before the campaignby the Ministry of Health.

Vaccines were distributed to all the governorates, according to their needs determined in their micro plans.

Communication:

-Minister of Health launched the campaign and visited the health centers.

-Meeting with partners were held to identify roles and provide logistics, publications, and microphones for the campaign.

-Workshop for journalism and media means before the campaign to determine their roles and the right messages to deliver to parents.

-Brochures and posters were distributed on a large scale to governorates to use them during the campaign.

-Several TV interviews were conducted to cover the campaign.

-New pages have been established on the social media to raise awareness about the importance of the campaigns and their dates.

-SMS mobile messages were sent before the campaign to reach parents in all the governorates.
