NAME:

POSITION: Teacher (Experienced, Fully Registered, Provisionally Registered)

Responsible to: The Principal

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

To be a corporate member of the Norsewood & Districts’ School staff and be prepared to teach in any area of the school. In 2017 you will teach in the Senior School.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:

  1. To hold a current New Zealand Teacher’s Practising Certificate. - Please check expiry date and renew through EDUCANZ (Education Council of Aotearoa NZ)
  1. To be familiar with and implementThe New Zealand Curriculum, The National Standards in Mathematics, Reading and Writing, and Literacy Learning Progressions.
  1. To be a committed classroom practitioner with excellent time management and organisational skills; and teach children effectively so that they can achieve to the best of their ability.
  1. To follow the criteria and key indicators in The Registered Teacher Criteria Handbook. (2010) – Professional Relationships and Professional Values Criteria ;
  2. maintain effective professional relationships focused on learning and well-being of all

learners.

  1. demonstrate commitment to promoting the well-being of all learners.
  2. demonstrate commitment to bicultural partnership in NZ
  3. demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional learning and development of personal professional practice

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES TO NORSEWOOD & DISTRICTS’ SCHOOL

  1. To show a genuine interest in and empathy with the children attending Norsewood and Districts’ School
  1. To support the Vision, Values andPrinciples ofNorsewood & Districts’ School.
  1. To be prepared to share ideas, communicate positively and work collaboratively with all staff members.
  1. To be current in curriculum, through explicit teaching and visible learning (student agency); and management approaches and support their development throughout the whole school.
  1. To implement the intent of the Charter and contribute to the development of its Annual Plan, includingAnnual Targets for Student Achievement, the evaluation of outcomes and target setting.
  1. To contribute to the school working day beyond class contact hours by attending regular staff meetings, professional development meetings, and organising school events as required.This may include call-back days during term breaks. Participate in co-operative planning and assessment meetings/workshops as required.
  1. To contribute to the corporate life of the school by completing duties such as playground supervision, leading assemblies, bus or pedestrian supervision andattending to children’s minor medical needs - child safetyand well-being areparamount.
  1. To be responsible for and/or assistwith,a number of teacher/school responsibilities,either negotiated with or appointed by The Principal.
  1. To hold a current First Aid Certificate at all times. (The school will pay for this cost).
  1. To participate in an annual P.D. Programme – school-wide and where appropriate, personal/ professional PD.
  1. To be a competent and confident user of technology in the classroom and for reporting.
  1. To apply the principles of Restorative Practice for behaviour management resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE CLASSROOM

  1. To develop a balanced class programme based on The New Zealand Curriculum and Norsewood and Districts’ Curriculum Documentation.The programme is to be suited to the needs and abilities of the children.
  1. To assist in the children’s development of the school’s values and key competencies.
  1. To provide a positive learning environment through encouragement and respect for the learner.
  1. To plan, teach and evaluate programmes of work using teaching as inquiry and current pedagogy. Explicit teaching and use of student agency are essential.
  1. To keep accurate, ongoing records of student’s progress and achievement, and use this assessment data to inform teaching and learning programmes.
  1. To identify children with special needs ie. Provide differentiated and inclusiveprogrammes for able students, as well as those with identified learning difficulties.
  2. To maintain contact with whanau of students taught, in the form of informal discussions, planned parent/caregiver discussions and written reports.
  1. To provide an attractive, positive and stimulating classroom environment that challenges students and engages them invisible learning.
  1. To regularly confer with other resource/outside agencies people involved with your class e.g. Teacher Aide, Curriculum Leaders, Principal, RTLB

RESPONSIBILITIES TO CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT& OTHER SCHOOL PROGRAMMES:

  1. To assist with the development of all school curriculum programmes.
  1. To act as the resource person in designated curriculum areas.
  1. Further responsibilities include –Teacher Leader of a House, management tasks, cultural or social events as requested/allocated by The Principal – (if applicable.)
  1. To trial any initiated or innovativeprogrammes as requested by Curriculum Leaders in consultation with The Principal.
  1. To report back to staff and if necessary to the Board of Trustees regarding Professional Development Courses/Conferences/Workshops attended.
  1. To take responsibility for storage and care of school equipment, with special regard to your allocated curriculum area(s) of responsibility. (if applicable)
  1. To monitor carefully your curriculum budget in the designated responsibility area(s) and compile priority purchasing listsafter consultation with other staff (if applicable)
  1. To share participation and planning in any school activities that may be listed on the Teacher Responsibilities list for 2017
