East Norfolk Sixth Form College – Public Consultation

The future of East Norfolk Sixth Form College

The Corporation of East Norfolk Sixth Form College (EN) is proposing to dissolve its Governing Body and convert to a Multi Academy Trust.

This follows the announcement by the Government that Sixth Form Colleges could apply for academy status. Following a Local Area Review of FE and Sixth Form Colleges locally, the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) recommended that East Norfolk Sixth Form College could pursue academisation or remain as an autonomous organisation.

Background

EN is the popular choice for c1700 students because of its 35-year reputation for success. In January 2017, the College was rated ‘Good’ across all areas by OFSTED. EN consistently features in the Top 20 of all UK colleges and currently has a 98% A Level pass rate, with a fantastic 100% in 22 subjects. EN offers an unrivalled curriculum with over 80 A Level and BTEC subjects. More students study STEM subjects at EN than any other college outside of Cambridge and EN is the only college locally with Norwich City Community Sports Foundation hub status and the Elite Football Programme.

Becoming an Academy

There will be no change in the character or ethos of the College, in fact, academisation enables the College to continue to develop it curriculum to meet the needs of the local community and to focus on the journey towards ‘Outstanding’. Academy status puts the College under the supervision of the local Regional Schools Commissioner. As a Multi Academy Trust, the College will continue to work collaboratively with neighbouring Colleges to ensure a coherent offer is available to all local students. Future strategic options are likely to include EN establishing formal links with schools and other education institutions.
