Writing Narratives: Real or Imagined Stories

ELAGSE7.3: I can write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

Directions: You will write a real or imagined story that is no more that is NO MORE THAN 1.5 to 2 pages in length. You must use dialogue, SHOW and not tell what is happening in your story, and use the five senses to tell your story. After you have written your first story, you are to do a FLIPPED STORY— in which you will write your story in a different narrative genre. (See FLIPPED-STORY details at the bottom of page). You MUST answer questions 1 – 4 in Part A and turn-in with your essay.

Part A: Real or Imagined Narrative: Answer these questions and/or complete the following items to turn in with your essay.

  1. What is the theme of your story?
  2. What conflict(s) is the main character facing?
  3. What text-structure did you mostly use in your narrative besides sequence? How did affect the outcome of your story?
  4. Plot Diagram of your narrative.

Part B: (FLIPPED-NARRATIVE): You are to write your same story but in a different narrative genre. Some ideas can be a poem, play, comic-strip, 8 to 10-slide Power-Point book with pictures, science-fiction, western, historical-fiction, myth, fairy-tale, or folktale to name a few. When completing the FLIPPED-Narrative assignment, it should the same number of pages or less than your original story. You should still be using the same narratives techniques as you did in your first story. The Due Date for the FLIPPED-NARRATIVE is 1 week after you submit PART A (11/3).When you submit your FLIPPED-NARRATIVE, complete a Compare/Contrast Venn-Diagram, describing how your FLIPPED-NARRATIVE is alike and different.
