Action Against Hunger (ACF-UK) is looking for a dynamic, pro-active Head of Events and Community Fundraising to cover 9 months maternity leave.
As an experienced fundraiser and team player, you will join our lively and passionate team committed to end child hunger.
Leading a team of 3 members of staff plus volunteers, you will look after Action Against Hunger’s Fine Wine Auction (the single largest income generator for the charity starring the UK’s top chefs) as well as providing a strategic vision for the whole of the Events and Community Fundraising Team. This includes driving forward our thriving third party events calendar including events such as our Diwali Banquet and Too Many Critics plus growing our bespoke Corporate 10k run and various other runs and challenges. You will also be involved in increasing our Community Fundraising presence nationally.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
1.  To lead the Events and Community Fundraising department.
To drive forward the Events and Community Team’s strategy and to be responsible for the implementation, performance and monitoring of all activities. Including managing the budget, maximising income and cost effectiveness and ensuring all contacts are recorded on the database.
2.  To lead, manage and develop the Events and Community Fundraising team.
To manage 2 Senior Event Officers and 1 part-time Events and Corporate Officer ensuring they have regular one to ones, performance development meetings and adhere to good fundraising practises.
3.  To maximise funds raised through high profile/special events including event managing the charity’s annual gala dinner.
To directly manage the charity’s annual high-profile gala dinner – The Fine Wine Auction. Including working closely with the organising committee and managing logistics, fundraising and supporter engagement.
4.  To lead the development of run, challenge and mass participation events and community fundraising.
To work with the Events and Community team to deliver and develop Action Against Hunger’s bespoke Corporate 10k Run, to implement a cost effective strategy to maximise funds raised through all other run and challenge events and to increase community support and maximise income from community supporters.
5.  To work with the Individual Donor Manager to develop a high value donors programme to maximise the engagement and involvement of our event supporters, committees and current major donors.
To manage relationships with event committee members and current high profile supporters to maximise funds raised and opportunities to leverage extra support. As well as identifying and nurturing key major donor prospects and ensuring a high level of communication with all events supporters.
6.  To maximise synergy and opportunities through collaboration and team work within the fundraising department
To ensure the Events and Community Fundraising team support and coordinate with other members of the fundraising team to maximise supporter involvement and funds raised by the charity
7.  General duties
To contribute to Action Against Hunger’s administrative tasks and activities and be willing to work outside the office and to work out of office hours. This includes ad-hoc travel.
To understand and apply good fundraising practises, fundraising laws and techniques, project management and database and documentation management.

Essential:
Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience gained

Essential:
·  Substantial knowledge and experience in the strategic development and coordination of a programme of events and community fundraising activities
·  Substantial knowledge and experience of delivering significant income growth in events and community fundraising
·  Significant experience in the management and leadership of a team of staff and volunteers
·  Specific experience of managing special/high profile events raising in excess of £200K
·  Significant experience in the management and nurturing of relationships with key stakeholders and celebrities
·  Experience of setting and managing a budget
·  Demonstrated ability of working ‘hands-on’ in the delivery of events and community fundraising
·  Experience in negotiation and representation
·  Excellent level of interpersonal skills with proven experience required
·  Experience in marketing
·  Experience in defining and articulating strategies and policies, and to present them to different audiences
·  Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
·  Excellent knowledge of Word for Windows, Excel and PowerPoint
·  Committed to Action Against hunger’s goals, values and mission
Desirable:
·  Experience of producing print, on-line and video promotional materials
·  Knowledge of database management, especially Raiser’s Edge and website and e-newsletter management software
·  Sensitivity to charity and fundraising issues
·  E-marketing and website management experience
·  Driving License
