UNIV 100 Final Project – Fall 2014

For the final project in UNIV 100 you will build a Pinterest Board for your goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. You must have at least TEN (10) pins with DESCRIPTIONS (30-50 words each). You will be presenting the board in class on November 18. This project is worth 15 points or 15% of your final grade.

Getting Started with Pinterest

1.  Go to www.pinterest.com and click on prompt: “Join Pinterest.” Create your account using Facebook, Twitter, or email.

A Word of Caution: Never create an account using your RU username and password. If you don’t have one already, I would encourage you to get a free email account through Gmail or Yahoo to use for these types of activities. You should also review the privacy policy for any social media account you use. If you register using Facebook or Twitter, you have given Pinterest permission to obtain information on your friends and contacts. Here is a link to the full policy. https://about.pinterest.com/en/privacy-policy

2.  When you sign up, Pinterest will ask you to select some of your interests to start a default board. You can change those at any time.

3.  To create a board, go the + sign in the upper right hand bar, hover over it, and choose “create a board.” At the bottom you have the option for (3) secret boards. No one can see these boards or your pins. You can have as many boards as you want. Anyone can see these boards and you don’t have to give them permission to do so.

4.  Name your board Goals and Aspirations. Provide a brief description that DOES NOT include your name. Choose Education category. Once you add a pin then you will have a board cover—once you add more pins you can change the cover.

5.  Find images that you want to pin to your board by browsing the web or other Pinterest sites. You can add a pin from websites that allow it or your computer. You can also “repin” items from other Pinterest boards.

6.  Start building your board by clicking your name in the top right hand corner and then click your Goals and Aspirations board. Select the “+ Add a Pin” option in the top left hand corner or your board. Enter URL and select the picture you want to add.

7.  Provide a 30-50 word description for each Pin that explains your goal or aspiration for the upcoming year. Since Pinterest does not have a spell check, I would recommend writing the descriptions in a word processing program and copying them to Pinterest. That will allow you to use the word count tool as well. Click the red Pin it button to save. If you don’t see the new pin on your board try refreshing the browser.

You can edit any pin by hovering over it and selecting the edit pencil. Save Changes when you are finished. You can see my example at http://www.pinterest.com/susan0138/goals-and-aspirations/

8.  Once you have finished your board, copy and paste the URL to the Final Project dropbox in D2L. Please do not delete the board or your account before the end of the semester on December 15.

This assignment is due before 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 17.
