Camden Park was named after Lord Camden, the British Secretary of State who granted John Macarthur 5000 acres of land for wool production. Camden Park House, built for John Macarthur during the 1830s, was intended to be the family mansion. When John diedin 1834, before the house was completed, his wife Elizabeth chose to remain at her beloved Elizabeth Farm, so Camden became the home of John & Elizabeth’s sons William and James.
