Short Film Festival 2009

A feature event of the Sydney Italian Festival, the ViVa Leichhardt Short Film Festival once again calls for entries from budding and experienced filmmakers alike.

Great prizes are on offer, including a $2000 cash prize for the winner and the coveted PomoD’oro award, all of which will be awarded by an expert panel of judges.

The festival will be held on Sunday, June 7, at Palace Cinema, Norton St, Leichhardt.

Entry Guidelines: Entries close 5pm Friday 15 May 2009

  1. While we encourage films made specifically for theViVa LeichhardtShort Film Festival, any film entered will be considered for screening as long as it adheres to the criteria set out below.
  1. Films must be no longer than 15 minutes (including titles and credits).

The films can be shot on any format but will only be eligible for screening if they demonstrate a high quality of picture and sound. Please ensure that the films are delivered as .mpg files and in 16:9 ratio. (NOT Letterbox). The ideal format to use is mpeg2 up to 25 bits, as this will give High Definition quality.

Filmmakers must submit film as an .mpg file.

Films must be provided ONLY in the following formats:

  • USB 2.0 Portable hard Drive
  • Fire wire 1394 portable Hard Drive
  • DVD ROM Disc single or dual layer (no more than 1GB per disc)
  • CD ROM Disc

Notes:

  • If your film requires subtitles, please ensure the subtitles are part of the film file and in 16:9 ratios.
  • If delivering your film on a disc, please ensure there is no more of 1GB of data per disc.

  1. The filmmaker must submit, along with their film, at least two (2) digital stills from their film, which they allow the festival committee to use for advertising and promotional activities related to theViVa LeichhardtShort Film Festival.Please ensure jpegs are at least 300dpi.
  1. All films must meet the classification guidelines as established by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC). Generally, no film will be screened which contains one or more of the following: strong violence, frontal nudity, sex scenes, and frequent coarse language. It is recommended that you follow the guidelines of the MA rating from the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC). For further information, please visit
  1. The ViVa Leichhardt Film Festival is free to enter and any filmmaker is invited to enter more than one film.
  1. Important: all issues pertaining to copyright are the sole responsibility of the filmmaker. The filmmaker must obtain signed permission from all persons who contributed to the making of the film, including but not limited to, writers, producers, composers, musicians, performers, director etc. Upon signing the entry form the Producer/Director warrants that they are entitled to enter their film with all rights relying on them including music. All copyright issues and concerns are the responsibility of the filmmaker.
  1. Filmmakers MUST detail all music used in their film, including title of composition, copyright owner and duration. If a film is selected for screening, it is essential that the filmmaker have proof that they have permission to use each piece of music.
