Biome Project and Presentation Checklist/Research Page

This research page will count as a double daily grade. Use the books available or the internet to research your biome and find the following:

Biotic Factors:

·  Animals (consumers) in the biome—in a realistic food web that includes a minimum of 2 food chains. What adaptations do these organisms have that make them specialized to live in the biome?

Name of 1st level consumer ______Adaptation: ______

Name of 2nd level consumer ______Adaptation: ______

Name of 3rd level consumer ______Adaptation: ______

Name of scavenger ______Adaptation: ______

______

Name of scavenger ______Adaptation: ______

______

·  Vegetation (producers) —at least 2 trees, grasses, shrubs, flowers, etc. These must be used in your food chains/web. What adaptations do these organisms have that make them specialized to live in the biome?

Name of Producer 1 ______Adaptation: ______

______

Name of Producer 2 ______Adaptation: ______

______

·  Decomposer—at least 1 that must be included in your food chain/web.

Name of decomposer ______Adaptation: ______

______

Abiotic Factors:

·  Average precipitation ______

·  Temperatures (highs and lows) ______

·  Amount of sunlight ______

·  Soil description ______

Resources:

·  *What natural resources can be found in the biome? ______

______

·  *How we are (or should) conserve them? ______

______

Other questions to answer:

·  *What are the components of an ecosystem? ______

______

·  *Describe HOW the organisms in your biome live together and use existing resources.______

·  *Describe how different environments support different varieties of organisms.

______

*Map:

Location of the biome around the world, neatly colored with map key.

This part of the project will count as a major grade.

For your major grade, you will create a biome project to illustrate the concepts you have researched above.

The project must include abiotic and biotic factors.

You do not need to include another map or the items with a *.

Some project ideas are listed below.

·  Scrapbook Page

·  Biome Triangle or Diorama (3D)

·  Tri-Fold travel Brochure

·  Poster

·  Magazine or Newspaper Article

You must include a detailed food web:

·  A picture of each organism and a correctly spelled name.

·  Each organism must be labeled as a first level consumer, second level consumer, third level consumer, producer, decomposer, or a scavenger.

·  Your food web must include at least 2 full food chains including the scavenger.

·  You must include the sun and you must have arrows from each organism showing the flow of energy through the ecosystem.
