Welcome and thank you Parents/Guardians

Welcome back to all our families and a special welcome, to our new families. On behalf of the staff I want to thank you all for having the children so well prepared for school and for sending in money for resources, photocopying etc.. The staff appreciates the effort you have put into buying books, getting uniforms ready, labelling items, shopping to ensure the children have healthy lunches, tying back hair, getting the children up in time in the morning, helping with homework etc. etc. It has not been easy and congratulations on doing such a good job. For safety reasons boots are not allowed so please do not go to the expense of buying boots for the winter period. The school will be well heated during the winter and while children are outside they need to be able to run around freely.

A big céad mile fáilte to our new teacher Mrs, Clodagh McNamara who is teaching 5th/6th class this year.Welcome back to Alicia Henry, Caroline Dolan and Kathryn Heneghan from maternity leave. We congratulate Alicia on the birth of her baby girl and Caroline and Kathryn on the birth of their baby boys.

Community Games Success in Athletics, Chess and Choir

At the information evening, Junior Infant teachers will talk about developing pre-reading, pre-writing and early numeracy skills as well as giving parents other valuable information about their child’s early days in school. As you will understand, it is best that child-minding arrangements be made for children at this time. At least one parent/guardian is expected to attend these meetings.

Insurance must be in before Friday, 25th September.

If you have not done so already please ensure you fill in the Insurance form. We recommend that all parents avail of this insurance. At €9 for 24 hour cover, it is very good value for money. Forms are available from the office and the closing date is Friday, 25th September.

CAR PARK SAFETY: We remind you that if you have young children you must park your car and walk them to the gate. Please remind children to use the pedestrian crossing and footpaths. Children need to see adults using the pedestrian crossing and footpaths as ‘they do what we do’. No parking on the double yellow line outside the school main gate. Please be vigilant at all times as we can never predict what a child will do.

PARENT BALLOT on the reorganisation of the Abbey NS and ScoilMhuire into one single co-educational school operating on two existing sites. It is very important that every family uses their vote. I spoke to the Parents Association last night about the ballot and have had some meetings with parents who wanted questions answered. I am happy to speak to any parents who wish to discuss what is proposed. Indeed, I will be available before and after the parent information evenings to answer parents’ questions on the ballot. Speak to parents on the Parents Association committee. What is important is that you use your vote.

ANY CHANGE IN ADDRESS OR TELEPHONE NUMBER MUST BE COMMUNICATED TO THE OFFICE.

Mercy Day 24th September

Parents Association

I want to thank sincerely all parents who have supported the school during the year. Soon the Parents Association will hold its AGM. I look forward to meeting many new faces there. Support from parents is essential in helping us to meet the needs of our children. It was great to see so many parents attend the Parents Association meeting last night to discuss the recent ballot on co-education. Thank you for all you do.

Any parents/grandparents who can help us with hearing reading or exchanging books in the school library, could you please contact me (090 6626872). We really appreciate the parents/grandparents who helped us last year and if they can continue to help, we would be delighted.

Wishing all our families a happy school year with many golden moments. If you have any concern or suggestion please don’t hesitate to make an appointment to contact your child’s class teacher or myself.

Best wishes,
