General Rules

1.Replace the guards before starting the machine and after making adjustments or repairs to the machine.

2.Do not remove, alter, or bypass any safety guards or devices when operating any piece of equipment or machinery.

3.Read and obey safety warnings posted on or near any machinery.

4.Use banding sheers or bolt cutters to cut strapping or banding material.

5.Stand to one side of the coil and keep others away when cutting strapping or banding material.

6.Wear gloves, eye protection, and a hard hat in all production areas.

7.Keep a firm grasp on wire ends that may become uncontrollable.

8.Before operating any machine, make sure that all guards are in place.

9.Keep all decks clear of excessive buildup and wire ends.

Wire Drawing Operations

1.Keep clear of the forklift as it approaches to load a coil.

2.Do not tangle electric cords or the hoist control box in the hoist chain.

3.Do not pull the bobbin onto the rack. Only push bobbins.

4.Keep hands clear of the pneumatic closure on the wiremill.

5.Carefully apply lubricant, if necessary, and keep it in the container labeled for this purpose.

6.Use the puller to thread the wire through the wiredrawing machine.

7.Keep a firm grasp on the wire end when removing the puller.

8.Wear gloves, eye protection and a hard hat at all times during wiredrawing operations.

9.Inspect puller for worn jaws before using to load wire onto machine.

10Keep a firm grasp on the wire while removing pulleys and threading around drums.

11.Ensure that all guards are in place before beginning wiredrawing operations.

12.Keep decks clear of excessive buildup and wire ends.

13.Keep electrical outlet plates covered at all times.

Galvanizing Operations

1.Use the forklift to transport the bobbin to the galvanizing operation area.

2.Push, not pull, the bobbin into the payoff position.

3.Tuck wire ends under the flange rim.

4.Keep hands clear of bobbin and payoff area when loading bobbin onto payoff.

5.Do not allow the bottom of the bobbin to drag over stationary objects or allow anything to bump the bobbin.

6.Wear gloves, eye protection, hard hat, and flame retardant clothes when working around galvanizing operations.

7.Use only pre-heated tools when stringing wire through lead tanks.

8.Do not allow your hands or fingers to become caught between the wire and any eyelets or rollers.

9.Keep hands and body clear of the bobbin path.

Stranding Operations

1.Before changing bobbin, lockout machine.

2.Visually inspect lifting hooks or slings for wear. Replace them if they are damaged.

3.Stand clear of the suspended bobbin at all times.

4.Before operating machine, make sure that the bobbins are securely locked into place.

5.Tighten loose coils and bobbin brakes to secure wire spool.

6.Do not attempt to remove a reel by yourself.

Dip Coating Tank Operations

1.Only trained employees are permitted to operate the hoist when placing or removing objects from the plating tank.

2.Do not use load hooks that are cracked, bent or broken.

3.Do not exceed the rated load capacity of the hoist as specified by the manufacturer.

4.Do not leave the hoist you are operating unattended if you have a load suspended in or around the dip tanks.

5.Do not hoist loads over people.

6.Follow the instructions on the label and in the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each chemical product you will be using in the dip tanks.

7.Wear chemical goggles or face shield, neoprene gloves, rubber boots, a hard hat, and an apron when handling any chemical in the work area.

8.Turn on local exhaust ventilation before starting any coating procedure.

9.If coating solution is splashed onto your clothing, remove the clothing immediately and thoroughly wash the skin-affected area with tempered water.

10.Maintain good housekeeping at all times in the coating area.

11.Do not permit anyone to be in the coating tank area when objects are being placed into the tank or are being removed from the tank unless they are wearing the required personal protective equipment.
