For Minority Graduate Students

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Make an early adjustment to the University of North Florida graduate programs.
  • Review of the skills essential for success in graduate school.
  • Acquire knowledge regarding non-academic services and relevant organizations.
  • Develop a viable student network.

PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Formal application to a graduate program through the UNF Admissions Office.
  • Full admission to a graduate program at UNF.
  • Submission of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.
  • Completion of zero to fifteen hours of graduate course work.
  • Submission of at least two letters of recommendation (from educators or supervisors) other than those submitted directly to the University for admission.
  • Submission of a one page typed narrative addressing: “Why I Want a Graduate Education.”

PROGRAM PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

  • Minority student and resident of the state of Florida.
  • Enrollment in a minimum of three graduate credit hours during the Summer A ‘14

(limited number of students can be accepted)or Summer B’14(limited number of students can be accepted). These hours should not conflict with program workshops (see program dates below).

  • First time participation in the Special Summer Graduate Program.

PROGRAM Scholarship (applicable to the UNF fall semester)

A scholarship of $1,000 applied to the UNF fall semester, will be awarded to students who actively participate in and complete all six class sessions, program activities, and earn a grade of ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the required summer graduate course.

OVERAWARDS

If you receive money for educational expenses, from other sources, at any time during the year, the Financial Aid Office may send you a revised award letter reducing your award, and in some cases you may be required to repay aid already awarded.

2014 PROGRAM DATES

June 7- July 19

(There is a break for July 4th weekend)

Workshops are held on Saturdays only from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

and include a 30-minute lunch break.
