Role Summary
The Academic Project Lead, SAP2 will be based in the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and work in collaboration with the Equality and Social Mobility Unit and other stakeholders. The role will form part of the project team for the Student Attainment Project 2, a HEFCE funded project (£439k) which is being delivered across 3 universities. The role is key in supporting the SAP2 by:
·  Acting as a key member of the project co-ordination group at the University of Derby, shaping the approach to the SAP2 within the institution.
·  Leading on the development and deployment of interventions through SAP2 with University of Derby academics across the institution.
·  Supporting the project implementation by working in collaboration with colleagues, including within partner institutions, sharing good practice information and feedback on intervention use and impact.
Principal Accountabilities
1.  Under the direction of the Head of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and in collaboration with the Head of the Equality and Social Mobility Unit provide advice, support and guidance to academic colleagues on all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment in relation to the SAP2.
2.  Work with key academics and teaching and learning practitioners and specialists within the institution to implement the SAP2 and work with programme teams to trial interventions at a module level.
3.  Provide expertise in delivery to colleagues and disseminate good practice through: lectures, workshops; events; publications and one-to-one support.
4.  Draw on institutional data, other relevant information and best practice to support implementation of the interventions with colleagues.
5.  Elicit feedback from colleagues to support improvements in the use and implementation of the interventions – and to benefit the wider project.
6.  To liaise with members of the University of Derby SAP2 Co-ordination Group in supporting the delivery of the project within the institution, ensuring operation within Data Protection guidelines, in line with the Data Sharing Agreement and to reflect the ethical approval granted for the project.
7.  Champion and raise awareness of the SAP2 approach and interventions within the University and the sector.
8.  Participate in SAP2 Project Board meetings / overall project level activity and project evaluation where required.
9.  Deliver research outcomes in research or practice and have the potential to contribute to the REF
10.  To ensure that all activities comply with the requirements of legislation, including Health and Safety, Equality Act 2010 and Data Protection.
11.  Promote equality and diversity for students and staff and sustain an inclusive and supportive study and work environment in accordance with University policy.
12.  Undertake such other duties as are reasonably required by the appropriate line management / project manager.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
·  Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
·  PhD or equivalence accepted in a relevant subject area for example by publication or through appropriate professional achievement and engagement at a national or international level
·  Fellowship of the HE Academy (or willingness to work towards (within 18 months)
Experience
Learning / Teaching
·  Significant experience of excellent teaching identified by peer review and/or working with academics to improve and enhance teaching quality
·  Experience of quality assurance and validation of HE modules/ programmes
·  Proven experience of academic leadership within an higher education setting
Research / Scholarship
·  Experience and achievement in the academic discipline, reflected in growing and consistent national reputation.
·  Evidence of publishing in high quality (“REF able”) journals or other outputs in research or practice
·  Experience and demonstrable knowledge / expertise in research methodologies appropriate to the academic discipline
Skills, knowledge and abilities
·  An appropriate level of digital capability with practical experience of applications
·  Ability to communicate with clarity to peers, using high level skills and a range of media
·  Excellent ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, internally and externally
·  A high level ability to think critically and promote innovation and creativity
·  Ability to devise, advise on and manage research programmes
·  Ability to use a range of delivery techniques to inspire and engage

Desirable Criteria
·  Master’s degree in relevant subject area
·  Developing skills in providing leadership to small research teams
·  Experience of developing innovative module/programme content and delivery methods
Business Requirements
·  Able to take a flexible approach to work
o  Travel between sites and occasionally overseas for research and/or teaching
o  Some evening and occasional weekend teaching
o  Attendance at open days, graduation events etc
