The Kingston Cardiac Support Group

The Kingston Cardiac Support Group was set up by Consultant Cardiologist Dr Culling in 1989. Its aims are to offer support and advice to people who have suffered a heart attack, had heart surgery or suffer from a cardiac condition. The group exists to help you and your family on the road to recovery and beyond. All cardiac patients, their family and friends are very welcome to attend.

The Support Group Involves of 4 sections:

  1. Support Group meetings
  2. A Charitable Trust
  3. A Visitors Team to patients in hospital
  4. An Exercise Group

Support Group Meetings

The meetings are held on the first Thursday of each Month (except January and December) in the lecture room on the 5th Floor of the new

surgical wing of Kingston Hospital, between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm. The Support Group is very fortunate to have professional speakers on a variety of cardiac subjects such as diet, exercise, coronary surgery, stress management and medication used in cardiology. The meetings usually start with a ‘problem half hour’ during which members can share their experiences. There are health professionals to offer advice. Attendance at the Support Group Meetings is free.

The Charitable trust

In 1991 Dr Culling and four members of the

Groupformed the Kingston Cardiac Support Trust to raise money and to receive donations and bequests for the purchase of specialist equipment for the Cardiac Department, which is not otherwise available on the NHS. Since that time the Trust has raised and received over £500,000.

Visitor Team to patients in hospital

Members of the Support Group also visit cardiac patients on the wards, to offer encouragement in their recovery and to inform them about the Support Group, the Trust and the Exercise Classes.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Having received experienced care on the cardiology wards you will be invited to take part in a specialised course provided by theNHS called Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III. This program includes advice and guidance from health professionals and comprises exercise and education sessions tailored to your needs.
