POSITION TITLE: Smart Classroom Tech

DEPARTMENT: Information Support Services

PURPOSE: Assist instructors in the smart classroom with any technical difficulties during the class.

Level 1 skill level is basic computer desktop support done by a computer technician in training with little or no experience; they cannot work independently and require close instruction while gaining experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Monitor Smart Classroom equipment, such as projectors, computer, TVs, and document camera, to ensure they are and remain functional during times of instruction. Notify ISS of any issues.

Prepare Smart Classroom for classes: sign out room key at the switchboard, unlock room, turn on the lights, start the computer, turn on the document camera and the projectors.

Proctor exams by assisting the instructor in the administration of course exams; notify instructor of cheating or dishonesty.

Collect homework for instructors and deliver to the switchboard for return to the instructor.

Keep good classroom decorum by demonstrating professional conduct and following the guidelines set forth by the instructor. In the event that the instructor is not present, if needed, the technician will remind students of the expectations set forth by the instructor and will report any issues to the instructor.

QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must have intermediate knowledge of computer technology and software; be able to problem solve; and work well with students and instructors. The employee must be comfortable managing expensive video conferencing equipment and content delivery devices in a classroom environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. Minimum physical exertion. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis and up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, and phone.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The noise level in the work environment is typical of most school environments with frequent hallway noise that could lead to distractions. Employee will work in and around a live classroom.
