CELTA Taster Day

Are you interested in Teaching English as a Foreign language? Considering taking CELTA but want to find out more before you commit to applying? The CELTA Taster Day is for you! The day is designed to give you a realistic idea of what teaching English is about, how the CELTA course works and answer any questions that you might have:

9.30 – 11am – What is CELTA and what does English teaching look like?

This session will give you an overview of the course and an idea of what a language lesson looks like in practice.

11 – 11.15am – Break for coffee (bring your own mug – hot water is available)

11.15 – 12.45pm – What do I know about the English language?

One of the things that people often find challenging when they start teaching English is that they realise that they don’t know the grammatical terminology behind the language that they speak fluently. This session will give you an overview of English grammatical tenses and what they are called.

12.45 – 1.30pm – Break for lunch (bring your own food)

1.30 – 3pm – Learning by doing – An introduction to teaching practice.

In this session, we want you to come prepared to teach your peers something for 5 minutes (only!). This will be followed by a group feedback session and will give you a good idea of how CELTA feedback works.

3 – 3.30pm – Any questions?

The final part of the day will be a chance for you to ask any questions that you have about CELTA and teaching English overseas and in the UK.

FAQs

Can anyone do the Taster Day?

Yes! It’s open to everyone and there is no application process.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Yes! Please come prepared to teach the rest of the group something (anything!) for 5 minutes. Previous ideas have included tying a knot, flower arranging, how to lay a table and dancing the salsa. It’s a good idea to choose something practical – we’re looking for you to teach us how to DO something rather than telling us ABOUT something.

How much does it cost?

The cost is just £20. Please choose your day, book and pay online at:
