3rd Annual Birdhouses for Schoolhouses Fundraiser
Benefiting Veggie U!
We are very excited to begin our annual fundraiser this year. We are focusing on making birdhouses for specific birds and bats. That’s right, bats! Since we didn’t get a good hard freeze this past winter, there will be more bugs. What better way to combat the bugs than utilize bats who love bugs.
This Saturday, May 5th, there will be a variety of birdhouse blanks and one bat house blank on display. If you are interested in decorating one that will be auctioned on June 9th, you may register for one of the houses. You will be able to pick up your house on Saturday, May 12th.
Fifty birdhouses will be passed out to people in the Toledo area. Participants will have until June 2 to decorate their birdhouse any way they would like. Birdhouses must be returned to the Toledo Farmers’ Market on any Saturday but no later than June 2, 2012. Each house will be photographed and placed on our website and Facebook page for viewing.
Once the birdhouse photos have been posted, anyone may email or call in a silent bid on a birdhouse. The silent auction at the market will commence on June 9th at 9am and will continue till noon. Winners of the Birdhouses will be notified within 24 hours and will then be able to pay for and pick up their birdhouses.
All the money raised during this event will be given to Veggie U, an organization that gives 4th grade classrooms the opportunity to learn about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, making wise food choices, attaining an understanding of sustainable agriculture. This is done through kits passed out to 4th grade teachers interested in the program.
