Powell Christensen, a family owned, Washington state leader in the sale and distribution of Petroleum Products, is currently searching for the right candidate to fill the position of Human Resources Manager.

Powell Christensen’s corporate office is located in Grandview, WA and the company operates from offices in Grandview and Seattle and has terminal facilities in Seattle, Toppenish, Yakima, Grandview and Pasco WA. The company also operates a small chain of convenience stores located primarily in eastern Washington, a truck stop in Yakima and a car dealership in Grandview and employs in excess of 400 people.

The company, and the Christensen family, have deep roots in eastern Washington and the company has grown significantly since Gary and Annette Christensen purchased RE Powell in 1980.

As a result of growth over the years, recent acquisitions and strong fiscal management, the company finds itself in a strong financial position and is poised to make transitional changes as it prepares for the future. Tony Christensen, a son of the founders, has recently accepted the role of President of the company and, along with his Executive and Leadership Teams is determined to move the company forward at a rapid pace.

Managing this change and growth will, among other things, require an experienced and well trained and managed workforce. The successful candidate for the position of Human Resources Manager will play a pivotal role in both the development and sustainability of this workforce by assisting the Leadership Teams in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of a holistic Employee Value Proposition that is aligned with the company’s purpose and pillars.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, driven HR professional who is passionate about employees and who will have the energy and persistence to work with the Leadership Teams to revamp the existing program to create an employee experience that makes Powell Christensen a recognized leader in HR management and a place where the best want to come to work.

Position Description:

The Human Resources Manager guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the company.

Job Duties include:

·  Support for leadership in the development, implementation and sustainment of an Employee Value Proposition that ensures the company consistently hires and retains the best people;

·  Collaboration with leadership on implementation and sustainment of an appropriate work structure by ensuring there are updated job requirements and job descriptions for all positions;

·  Support for Operations with recruiting and staffing;

·  Development and monitoring of compliance with performance management and improvement systems;

·  Leadership on the development and implementation of compensation and benefits strategies that ensure Powell Christensen remains competitive in the areas it serves;

·  Development and maintenance of a program to ensure new employees are prepared for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.

·  Maintenance of employee benefits programs by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends and recommending benefit programs to management;

·  Assurance of legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements.

·  Maintenance of management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.

·  Maintenance of historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.

Human Resources Manager Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have proven skills and/or a track record in Human Resource Management and/or Organizational Development. Proven leadership with a breadth of Human Leadership initiatives with particular demonstrated involvement with small to mid-size organizations will be a real asset.
