Dear Year I Confirmation Candidate,
This is an exciting time in your life! All of us - your family, sponsor, parish priests, mentors, director, and fellow parishioners - are praying for you and are anxious to help you prepare to receive this great Sacrament. But, the decision to proceed is yours and yours alone. You should know that there are certain requirements for you to fulfill if you decide you are ready to take this next step in your faith journey. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains what those requirements are:
A candidate for Confirmation who has attained the age of reason must
* profess the faith
* be in the state of grace
* have the intention of receiving the sacrament
* be prepared to assume the role of disciple and witness to Christ,
both within the ecclesial (church) community and
in temporal (daily) affairs.
(Paragraph #1319)
This packet is designed to help you stay on track in trying to meet these goals. There is also a list of dates when certain components are due. Be sure to record the due dates on your calendar at home so you will turn in your assignments on time.
It is important for you to understand that the Bishop relies upon the people who have prepared you for reception of the Sacrament to attest to the fact that you have completed the requirements outlined in the Catechism and are ready to assume the role of a fully initiated Catholic. We cannot honestly do this if you have not proven your desire and readiness.
Please look over the packet and pray for guidance as you decide whether or not you wish to be confirmed. If you are not sure, and you would like to talk about it, I am always willing to meet with you.
May you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life now and always.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Penny Giunta
Director of Confirmation

Prayers and doctrine to know from memory:
OUR FATHER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the
fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of
our death. Amen
GLORY BE
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father, through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven. And by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all other evil spirits, who wander through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You will renew the face of the earth.
MEMORARE
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee O Virgin of virgins my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
ACT OF CONTRITION
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance,
to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us. In His name, my God, have mercy.
TEN COMMANDMENTS (Learn them in order – it’s easier to remember them that way.)
The first three are about loving God.
1. I am the Lord, your God, you shall have no strange gods before me.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day.
