The following delineates the agreed upon expectations for successful completion of the Internship for Master of Science in Psychology students in the Applied Developmental Psychology track at Clayton State University and documents how these requirements will be fulfilled within the specific internship placement site, in this case Site Name.

All students in the Applied Developmental Psychology track of the Master of Science in Psychology program at Clayton State University are required to complete a minimum of 450 hour internship. During a traditional 15 week semester, this translates to a minimum of 15 hours per week of internship activities (either on- or offsite) over the course of a single semester. Students may fulfill all of their internship requirements at a single site over the course of multiple semesters or may select to complete their internships at two distinct sites. Appropriate activities within the internship site setting will complement the general mission of the Applied Developmental Psychology program by expanding the student’s mastery of content and concepts presented within the traditional classroom setting and will allow students to apply this knowledge base within a variety of professional settings. Appropriate activities may include but are not limited to,

  • Programmatic development as a part of community outreach efforts aimed at serving children and their families
  • Program evaluation of existing or proposed programs that serve children and their families
  • Participation in activities of a research consortium. These activities may include comprehensive literature reviews that will foster the student’s understanding of the evidence base for a variety of treatment, prevention, and behavioral health promotion practices targeting infant, child, youth and parental populations
  • Consultation with legislative entities regarding interpretation and implementation of findings from developmental science
  • Participation in activities aimed at improved translation and dissemination of finding from developmental science so as to better serve the intended populations
  • Participation in the general professional culture of the organization so as to enhance the student’s understanding of how the tools of developmental science are applied in a variety of professional settings
