I am Aastha Shah of The BGES School. A month ago I had participated in Horlicks Wiz kids and I have qualified for the South Asian finals to be held in Bangalore, in November, where I will be representing my city and my school. I always wanted to contribute something to the society which has nurtured me since birth. So I have undertaken a project to reach out to other minors of my age who are underprivileged. When I look at this world through my eyes, the problem which pains me most is when I see crimescommitted by us minors against minors. The basic aim of my project is to create awareness about this issue in society, by going around the city and talking to children of my age group, by motivating them to avail of the Right to free and compulsory education. Thereby, trying to sensitize the underprivileged and the privileged. I understand that it involves a lot of responsibilities and risks. But we need to start sometime somewhere. So I have already started taking the baby steps throughthe following steps-

Step 1: My first step has been to recruit my core team which consist of the vendors outside my school. I have gathered their support to get together the underprivileged children from their localities for talking to them and sensitizing them.

Step 2: Mymentor team which includes my Headmaster, father, and four of my teachers have already committed their time and effort to educate those underprivileged children.

Step 3: The school counciller has agreed and explored the availability of a clinical psychologist to be a part of this project.

Step 4: As an incentive for these childrento keep them interested and involved in this project, me and my team have planned ways of entertainment like dance and song performance and even small skits.

Step 5:My school management has already committed reasonable amount for any session we hold.

Step 6: I have uploaded a short film on this project made by me and my classmates,in Youtube,Facebook and school website.

I am very confident that I will be able to overcome hurdles in my path and succeed in my goal over a period of time.Awareness about free and compulsory education has to made in every mind. I being a minor do not want another minor’s life to be spoiled whether he or she is privileged or an underprivileged, because hate crimes are bound to take place if the gap between the deprived and the advantaged, widens. My message to whoever reads this is to encourage me in making this project of mine a success, because the pillars of the society has to be strong from the base, to stand the test of time.
