2017YST SCHOOL GAMES
ROLE DESCRIPTION: TEAM MANAGER for Volleyball Cadet Girls or Junior Women
OVERALL ROLE:
Toprovide a high quality and safe athlete experience for a designated team at the 2017 School Gamesand holding camp, and in doing so, be an ambassador for Volleyball and the squads.
DATES REQUIRED:
- Monday 17th July – School Games Orientation
- Thursday 31st – Sunday 3rd September 2017(inclusive): School Games, Loughborough University
- Monday 29th – Wednesday 30th August:Holding Camp, National Volleyball Centre, Kettering
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tohelp manage and co-ordinate all pre-Games athlete and team staff requirements including selections,data input into the Games Database System (this includes checking information from team members (e.g. dietary requirements), transport arrangements, and kit distribution
- To effectively manage all athletes and team staff to ensure a high quality athlete experience throughout
- To be in loco-parentis for all athletes in the team throughout the 2017School Games, including both ‘field of play’ and ‘non field of play’ areas
- To manage athlete and team staff discipline in accordance with the Codes of Conduct and any other agreed protocols within the sport/team
- To manage all communication flows between the NGB, Single Point of Contact, team staff and athletes
- To work in partnership with the Safeguarding Manager, Co-ordinator and Officers to ensure the safety and well-being of athletes and team staff at all times
- To work in partnership with other Team Managers and team staff within the sport to ensure coherence between individual, team and sport plans at the 2017School Games
- To read and be familiar with the Games Services Manual and Safeguarding Plan
- To be familiar with UK Anti-Doping Policies and testing procedures
- To work professionally to ensure a meaningful experience for a Team Attaché assigned to the team
FURTHER BREAKDOWN OF RESPONSIBILITIES PRE-GAMES/GAMES TIME/POST GAMES:
PRE-GAMES RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To assume Volleyball England Team Manager responsibilities at the holding camp
- Follow Volleyball England guidelines and polices as set out in Staff Handbook
- To ensure all athlete and team staff information (e.g. personal details, kit sizing, medical and any disability information) is completed and submitted accurately and on time onto the Games Database system, with particular attention made to any specific requirements requested by athletes and team staff
- Working with the Single Point of Contact and the nominated transport provider(s) to support the planning and implementing of all team travel arrangements: to, from and during the 2017 School Games.
- To read and familiarise self with the relevant Codes of Conduct for athletes and team staff, and to agree standards of behaviour with athletes and team staff in advance of/at the Games
- To attend any training/School Games Orientation/briefing events as required by the NGB
- To have completed a criminal record check with the NGB within the last 3 years (on request)
- To have attended a sports coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop (or equivalent) within the last 3 years
GAMES TIME RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To continually work and communicate with the Games Services Team to manage all athlete and team staff operations, logistics and communications during the Games including arrivals and departures, accommodation, accreditation, travel, transportation, catering, media requests, medical interventions and the athlete experience programme
- To ensure athletes understand the ‘loco parentis’ role of the Team Manager, and agree expected standards of behaviour
- To manage all athletes and team staff during the 2017 School Games in accordance with the Codes of Conduct, the Games Services Manual and the Safeguarding Plan at all times
- To create a positive environment and experience for all athletes, team staff, coaches and Team Attaché at the 2017School Games, regardless of competition results achieved
- Engage with the Departure Process to ensure athletes and team staff are safely returned to the agreed Transport Hub (or collection point) for the sport/team
POST GAMES RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To manage all athlete and team staff communications as appropriate
- To ensure any Duty of Care Transfer forms are passed to the SPC for the sport
- To provide a formal report to the NGB to provide feedback and assist the future development of the Games as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Experience of managing young people and sports teams on residential trips
- Is a positive role model for all athletes, other team staff and event staff pre-Games and Games time
- Has completed the relevant checks and training in accordance with NGB requirements and the School Games Safeguarding Plan
- Is competent in managing and co-ordinating individual athlete and team data onto a central database system
- Is young people focussed and able to plan, empathise and communicate effectively with athletes, team staff, volunteers and Event Management Staff
- Has an understanding of the issues affecting children and young people and the sensitive way in which these issues must be managed. These include controlling and managing individual and team behaviour, and enforcing the School Games Codes of Conduct and Safeguarding Plans
- Has an understanding and appreciation of the need to respect confidentiality
- Has effective listening and communication skills, both written and oral including conflict resolution skills
- Has an understanding of the requirements of a ‘performance environment’ for developing athletes
