Ohio’s Clean Diesel School Bus Fund

Projects Funded with Stimulus Dollars, January 2011 Update

In March, 2009, Ohio EPA was awarded $1,730,000 for clean diesel projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 100% of these funds were allocated to local school districts to help them install pollution control equipment onto school buses to reduce student and driver exposure to the harmful pollutants in diesel exhaust. Some projects also include idle reduction equipment to save fuel and further reduce pollution from school buses. A total of 560 school buses in twelve counties are being cleaned up with stimulus funds, and 398 buses were completed by the end of December, 2010. Many projects also received state funds from Ohio EPA for additional equipment. Estimates of the total emission reductions likely to be achieved are currently under revision because of recent project modifications.
