Manager Education Initiatives

Summary

The Manager Education Initiatives oversees the coordination of education projects designed to improve the scope and quality of education programs and services available to NAN First Nation students attending both Council Operated and Provincially Funded schools including but not limited to the First Nations Student Success Program and the Education Partnerships Program. This position is critical to the successful funding, implementation and reporting of educational initiatives and for maintaining effective liaison with participating Tribal Councils, First Nations, Provincial Government representatives, and Federal Government representatives with respect to these initiatives.

Job Duties

•Plan, implement, evaluate and report on education programs and initiatives in accordance with the objectives established for each initiative.

•Monitor program objectives, work plans, and outcomes for all levels of program initiatives.

•Research on an ongoing basis, potential education initiatives that would benefit NAN First Nation students.

•Undertake the development of proposals, work plans, budgets and reports for education initiatives.

•Ensure that the learning objectives and program implementation of approved education initiatives are effectively communicated to participating First Nationsand partner education organizations.

•Prepare regular progress reports for the Director Education Secretariat and the appropriate Executive Council Portfolio holder.

•Maintain ongoing contact with personnel involved in the implementation of education initiatives withthe First Nations, tribal council and partner organizations at all levels.

•Communicate regularly with all partners.

•Maintain liaison with funding agencies and provide all required financial and narrative reports on a timely basis.

•Participate in NAN Education Committee meetings and other education program meetings and conferences as requested.

•Build and maintain a strong level of trust and respect within NAN and with the Tribal Council and education organizations leadership and staff.

•Prepare reports for monitoring and evaluation, annual reports, Chiefs meetings, and as requested.

•Manage budgets as required.

•Prepare and process flow through agreements.

•Other duties as required.

Competencies and Qualifications

•5+ years related education work experience

•Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience in a training or education-related position

•Knowledge of First Nation education issues, challenges and delivery models

•Ability to work effectively with others

•Demonstrated presentation skills

•Proven effectiveness in project management

•Ability to work in a close team environment with others

•Ability to work independently and take initiative to meet goals and objectives

•Strong communication skills with proficiency in developing written communications and the development and delivery of oral presentations

•Willing to travel as required

•Ability to speak Ojibwe, Oji-Cree or Cree is an asset

Accountability

The Manager of Education Initiatives is an integral part of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation organization who reports to the Director NAN Education Secretariat on day to day operations, and to the Executive Director for overall performance.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Nature of Employment: Full - time

Rate of Pay: Negotiable
