IUCN WCPA CBD POWPA “Futures Workshop”

Participants Arrival & Departure:

You are requested to arrive in Jeju, Korea (Jeju International Airport) on the afternoon or evening of 13th September and to depart in the late afternoon or early evening of 17th September 2009. You may arrive at Incheon International Airport (ICN) and go through immigration and custom clearance at the arriving terminal and take one of the following procedures.

1)  Overseas -Incheon Int'l Airport -Jeju International Airport

Step 1 Recheck to transfer on the 1st floor.

Step 2 Receive the boarding pass for the domestic flight on the 3rd floor (Departure Level) in Incheon International Airport to Jeju International Airport.

Note - As few international flights are bound for Jeju directly from Incheon, please check airlines for detailed information or changes regarding flight schedules.

2)  Overseas -Incheon International Airport -Gimpo International Airport -Jeju International Airport

Take an Airport Limousine Bus or AREX (Airport Railroad train) from Incheon Int'l Airport to Gimpo Domestic Airport. AREX's service is provided by both commuter and express trains. Please refer to this website for detailed information. http://english.arex.or.kr/jsp/eng/index.jsp

For those needing to overnight in Seoul some suggestions for accommodation from KNPS

Airport Pick-up: Upon arrival in Jeju, exit the arrival hall and you will find KNPS staff holding a board and shuttle buses parked outside. You can take the complimentary Oriental shuttle bus to reach the venue. Shuttle bus departs from the airport every hour after 10:00 a.m. If after your arrival you prefer to go straight to the Oriental Hotel you can take a taxi and it would take about 15 mins and the total fare should not exceed KRW 9000. (The taxi fare will be at your own expense) Please ensure you have enough local currency to pay for the taxi fare as foreign currency will not be accepted.

1.  Online registration (including confirmation of your hotel booking)

All participants are urged to register online. Online registration will be available starting August 28th, 2009 through September 8th. Registration form can be downloaded from our website :

Online Registration is essential to confirm your hotel booking. Please make sure you indicate all night that you need accommodation for when you register online.

2.  Venue for the Workshop, Accommodation and Documentation:

Both accommodation and meeting venue are at the same location. The address of the hotel is

Please make sure to bring with you printed copies of all background papers or documents required for discussions at the meeting as there is very limited capacity for printing or for making copies at the venue itself.

3.  Room reservation: We have tentatively booked accommodation for all participants based on checking-in on Sunday 13th September 2009 and checking-out on Thursday 17th September 2009. In the event that some participants decided to travel with their partner, sharing room without additional costs is available for one partner, but Lunch and dinner not included. For those participants arriving early than Sunday Sept 13th or leaving later than Thursday Sept 17th additional nights can be booked at participants own cost for around $70USD per night via the Workshop Online Registration.

4.  Coverage of accommodation expenses: Your room will be paid directly by the organizers and breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Other miscellaneous expenses such as telephone calls, room service, internet services, laundry, mini bar or using hotel facilities (sauna, massage) etc. will have to be born by the participants themselves and must be settled before checking out. Internet is available in the hotel rooms and costs KRW 6600 per hour and KRW 12,100 per day. A business center is available in the hotel lobby and internet service costs KRW 2000 per hour. However, participants may also use a free internet service in the Secretariat office. (We only have 2 computers available in the office)

5.  Food Preferences

If you have any specific food preferences (vegetarian, allergies etc.), please let us know when you register online.

6.  Reimbursements of travel expenses (for confirmed sponsored participants only)

For those participants whose sponsorship has been confirmed by IUCN all approved travel costs (air ticket, taxi fares, visa fees, airport taxes, cost of extra nights in other hotels rather than the venue as required by the travel itinerary) will be reimbursed. Please note in particular that the air ticket must be purchased in the most economic/direct route.

o  For those who have pre-arranged cash reimbursement this will be made in $USD at the workshop on production of all necessary receipts to the reimbursement desk.

o  For those who have pre-arranged reimbursements by bank transfer this will be made AFTER the workshop on production of all necessary receipts to the reimbursement desk at the workshop.

For financial and administrative reasons all reimbursements will be done in $USD.

Please provide the following documents in printed hard copy to the reimbursement desk next to the registration desk staffs on the 1st day of the meeting

a. Copy of your passport

b. Original receipt from your travel agent

c. Copies of your ticket & boarding pass

d. Original receipt for hotels rather than the venue as required by the travel itinerary and Visa fees, if any

e. Original receipts for airport transfers in your country or origin or in Korea

f. Money transfer information (Bank account Number, Bank IBAN and Swift code, Bank Name and address) (Not needed for cash reimbursements)

Please check your reimbursements and sign the reimbursement form and official IUCN receipt (which will be provided at the reimbursement desk) Claiming reimbursement for any other expenses will need to be discussed and approved, only on exceptional and well justified cases, by the WCPA Chair during the meeting

Failing to provide original receipts for expenses noted above will make impossible obtaining the reimbursement for them.

7.  Climate: The mean temperature of Jeju in September is about 23 oC. There is some monsoon during the withdrawing of rain in September. Bringing an umbrella is recommended along with light clothing.

8.  Currency: Korean Won (KRW); (USD 1 = approx. 1250 KRW). Banks and authorized foreign currency dealers will incash Travelers cheques and currency notes of major denominations on production of a valid passport. Banking hours are from 09.30 – 16.30 Monday to Friday. You are encouraged to change money at the airport.

9.  VISA Requirements:

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they compliant with Korean visa requirements and apply for any necessary visas themselves.

-  Nationals of the countries below are allowed up to 30 days of visa-free sojourn for tourism or visitation. Exceptions: Canada is allowed up to 6 months, and United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, Slovenia and Japan are allowed up to 90 days.

·  Asia: Hong Kong(90 days), Japan(90 days), Macau(90 days), Brunei, Taiwan, Indonesia(diplomatic and government officials)

·  Americas: United States (90 days), Canada (6 months),Argentina, Honduras, Uruguay, Paraguay, Guyana, Ecuador

·  Europe: Monaco, Vatican, Slovenia, Albania, Cyprus, San Marino, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro (90 days), Andora, Croatia, Oceania Guam, Nauru, New Caledonia, Micronesia, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Fiji, Palau, Samoa, Australia (90 days) Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga

·  Middle East andAfrica: Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Qatar (90 days), South Africa, Swaziland, Egypt, Mauritius, Seychelles, Kuwait, Lebanon (diplomatic and government officials)

Visa Fees - Single entry visa for a stay of no more than 90 days: US$30.
