SUGGESTED LIST OF ACTIVITIES FOR SUMMER PLANS

I.In-School Youth

  1. SAEP supervision / maintaining student record books
  2. Visit prospective students
  3. Locate and secure livestock for next year's projects / validation
  4. Hold demonstrations on improved agricultural / horticultural practices
  5. Visit prospective Work Based Learning students
  6. Locate and arrange suitable work stations for Work Based Learning students

II.Program Planning

  1. Collect teaching materials: Plant, animal, insect specimen, agricultural literature, statistics, etc.
  2. Order or arrange for videos, slides, computer software, etc.
  3. Make departmental budget
  4. Survey community and school officialsfor developing or revising long-rangeprogram and annual teaching plans
  5. Make plans and prepare material for an educational exhibit at fairs, shows, etc.

III.Facilities

  1. Check shop inventory and repair or replace equipment as needed
  2. Rearrange classroom, ship and file reference material
  3. Improve classroom and shop appearance

IV.FFA

  1. Participate in district, area, and state meetings
  2. Participate in FFA officer training
  3. Conduct summer tours or camps
  4. Conduct local chapter meetings
  5. Meet with advisory committees and other groups to plan youth activities

V.Adult and Young Farmer Education

  1. Assist with agricultural programs on crop, livestock, poultry, and plant topics
  2. Conduct tours to experiment stations, farms, and other places to view outstanding agriculture improvement work
  3. Conduct Agribusiness visits and surveys to assist with improved practices or individual problems
  4. Hold demonstrations on needed and/or outstanding improvement practices
  5. Meet with advisory council
  6. Plan adult and young farmer programs

VI.Community Development and Work with Other Agencies

  1. Performing community service work
  2. Participate in planning and conducting community projects for the improvement of agriculture

VII.In-Service Training

  1. District, area, or state meetings
  2. Local school district sponsored workshops
  3. Educational Service Centers (CEUs)
  4. Teachers Conference (CEUs)

VIII.Summer School

  1. Work Shops for specialized certifications
