JOB TITLE:Porter/Operations Assistant (Fixed term Contract for Six Months)
RESPONSIBLE TO:Domestic Supervisor
HOURS OF WORK:40 hours per week
LOCATION:LOROS Hospice, Groby Road, Leicester
JOB PURPOSE
Working within the Operations Team providing an effective and efficient portering service and working alongside the Domestic Team in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness at the hospice.
DAILY DUTIES
1.Mortuary
- Attends the mortuary ensuring that the correct patient is taken by the Undertakers/Funeral Directors, obtaining signature for receipt of the body. Passes signed requisite forms and paperwork to Medical Secretary received from the Funeral Directors.
- Places soiled and used linen into the receptacles provided.
2.Stores
- Distributes supply requests to hospice departments, as required.
- Assists with weekly hospice supply deliveries.
3.Collections
- Collects from the Hospice Ward blood samples or drug requests and takes to Glenfield GeneralHospital (collecting and delivering at the same time internal mail as appropriate).
- Collects drugs from Glenfield GeneralHospital (collecting and delivering at the same time internal mail as appropriate).
- Collects, when required, rubbish and clinical waste from different areas of hospice and disposes of into appropriate skips/collection bins on site.
4.Checks
- Checks oxygen cylinders and replace empty ones from stock as necessary. Provide details to the Facilities Officer of new cylinders required.
- Assists in keeping the Hospice site tidy and clear of litter and rubbish.
- Keep footpaths clean, roadways and parking areas swept and tidy and external signage.
- Records photocopier readings, gas and electricity meter readings.
5.Cleaning
- Assists in the general cleaning of all areas within the Hospice with the Domestic Team as required including wall washing, curtain changing, vacuuming etc.
- Assists in the cleaning of equipment rota.
WEEKLY DUTIES
- Sorts, distributes and puts away all supplies and stores received.
- Tidies stationery store and advises the Operations Team of any stock requirements.
- Checks the temperature of blood, drug and mortuary fridges and records readings.
- Checks Oil and Tyre Pressures for the wheelchair vehicle.
OTHER DUTIES
- Takes his/her instructions from the Domestic Supervisor.
- Obtains signatures from relative staff for uplifts taken for delivery.
- Assists with the moving of items which require lifting or being taken to another part of the building i.e. Patient beds.
- Sets out meeting/seminar rooms with furniture and/or equipment as required.
- Assists the Domestic Team with their cleaning duties as directed.
- Ensures appropriate protective clothing provided is worn when undertaking tasks requiring such protection.
- Reports immediately to the Operations Manager (or other appropriate member of Senior Staff) any incidents or accidents affecting security or Health & Safety Regulations
- Undertakes all tasks in accordance with LOROS’ policies and procedures.
- Attends meetings with the Operations Team and other Hospice staff as required..
- Undertakes such other related duties as may reasonably be required.
GENERAL

- To carry out and comply with the prevention and control of infection as per LOROS policies and procedures.
- All staff is subject to LOROS policies, procedures and conditions of service, with reference to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
- Co-operate with their employer as far as is necessary to meet the requirements of the legislation.
- All staff should be aware of and aim to contribute to LOROS’ Vision and Mission and also strive to exhibit the Values & Behaviours at all times (see attached document).
