Course Title: Physical Education/Health 1

Course Description: This course is required for students meeting the Physical Education and Health requirement for graduation. Students will participate in a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on state and national standards.

Course Goals:

1.  Learn healthy habits that lead to life long physical fitness.

2.  Enhance interpersonal skills through sports.

3.  Develop safe and healthy practices for fitness.

4.  Establish routines to promote fitness beyond the classroom.

5.  Cooperate within the class to provide an environment conductive to learning.

6.  Gain knowledge a wide variety of sports and activities.

7.  Understand the link between physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

8.  Gain knowledge of how health relates to cognitive function.

9.  Learn how to advocate for their own health and that of those in their community.

10.  Develop knowledge of safe ways to keep their body healthy.

Student Objectives:

1.  The student will practice healthy habits in the classroom and learn how to carry these over to their own lives.

2.  The student will be exposed to a wide variety of small group and team settings within sports and group activities.

3.  The student will learn how to safely train their body for the demands of sports and daily activity.

4.  The student will demonstrate cognitive understanding of sport skills, strategies and rules.

5.  Students will always bring a positive attitude to class as well as best effort regardless of the activity.

6.  Students will enhance their decision making skills in regards to their health and the health in their community.

Classroom Expectations: For the physical education portion of class all students will be given their own locker. Students will keep their clothes and other valuables in this locker. It is recommended that all students have a lock to keep personal items safe. Students will be allowed 4 minutes before class and after class to change into and out of their gym clothes. Proper gym attire includes athletic shirt/shorts, sweat shirts and sweat pants, athletic shoes. No marking shoes will be permitted in the gym.

Tardy Policy: Students are expected to be in the locker room when the bell rings. Any student not in the locker room at that time will be marked Tardy. All classes will follow the student handbook Tardy policy.
