Job Title / Support Worker
Salary scale / Up to £8.50
Reporting to / Team Leader/Care Manager
Main purpose of job: /
  • To provide personal care and support to service users living in the Homes in a way that upholds their dignity and is responsive to individual needs.
  • To support the service users to develop independent living skills as identified within their care plans.
  • To help in the care of the physical environment and in the general day to day activities of the home.
  • To act as a key worker to identified service users.
  • To keep records e.g. care plans to a good standard.

Main duties & responsibilities: / Service users
  • To assist service users meet their personal care needs as identified within their care plans. This may include washing, dressing, nail cutting, shaving.
  • To enhance the self esteem of service users by encouraging them to take an interest in themselves and the world around them. This can be done for example by developing an interest in fashions, the purchase of personal possessions or the uptake of a hobby.
  • To undertake a key worker role when requested. This will involve taking specific responsibilities for an identified service user.
  • To support service users in social, leisure, recreational and educational activities.
  • To support service users on holiday.
Physical Environment
  • Undertake to ensure the home is maintained to a clean standard. This will include general domestic cleaning, ironing, washing, hoovering, etc as detailed on the cleaning schedule.
  • Help the service users plan, prepare and cook meals. Help clearing up after meals.
Record Keeping
  • To contribute to the development of care plans based on assessed needs of identified service users ensuring they are reviewed on a regular basis.
  • To assist with written progress reports as agreed with relevant purchasing agencies and to attend reviews.
  • Maintain records for individual service users. Report injuries or unusual occurrences.
  • Read Care Plans, Communication book and diary on a daily basis contributing information as necessary.
Personal Development
  • Together with a supervisor, identify learning needs through the appraisal and supervision system.
  • Identify any skills gap for personal development.
Administration Of Medicines
  • Attend Medication administration training and then be observed/supervised administering until deemed competent in accordance with TLC’s Medicine Policy.
Health And Safety
  • To be aware of health and safety legislation and your responsibilities in this regard.
PRICE Instructor Training
  • To plan, deliver and evaluate training.
  • Keep up to date with care related training issues.
  • Act as point of contact for PRICE/in crisis
  • Support individual homes
  • Teach de-escalation, deflection, break away strategies and physical intervention

Experience

  • Working with adults who have a learning disability.
  • Has worked as an effective team member.
  • Working one to one with service user within a community environment.
  • Previous experience of record writing relating to the care setting.

Qualifications/

Education/
Training /
  • LDQ Award / NVQ 2 /Diploma level 2 or willingness to work towards.
We would also prefer evidence of further training relevant to adult with Learning Disabilities.
Other requirements /
  • Car driver would be an advantage.
  • You will also be required to follow a shift pattern, but still work flexibly in order to meet the needs of the services within TLC Care Homes Ltd.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate philosophy of care which is consistent with the values of the service.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
