The NEBDN Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing is currently the benchmark for the Dental Nurse to be recognised as the second appropriately trained person assisting in the care of patients receiving dental treatment under conscious sedation.The examination tests the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that such a dental nurse should have. The examination is only suitable for candidates engagedin both intravenous and inhalation sedation on a regular basis, since completion of a Record of Experience is a requirement for the examination.

Applicants must be registered with the General Dental Council or Irish Dental Council at the time of application, since the Record of Experience can only be obtained with this evidence.

Course strictly limited to 20 applicants

The course is run in preparation for the NEBDN examination in Dental Sedation Nursing. This requires an extensive Record of Experience to be completed prior to the examination. Evidence of assisting with 25 sedation cases to include at least 5 inhalation AND 5 intravenous sedations must be submitted and witnessed.

Completion of the Record of Experience will require significant input from your supervising dentist or employer. It is therefore important that they are consulted about this prior to your application, and their supporting consent is given below.

I am aware that the course involves the completion of “log-sheets” and “competencies” forming the Record of Experience, covering various aspects of sedation practice, and that I am willing to assist in the completion and witnessing of the practical elements required. Should they need to obtain practical experience in sedation techniques not provided by me, I would assist my employee in finding a suitable placement for this.
