3.  PURPOSE OF POSITION

Lead and manage the delivery of the ARU High Performance Academy and Player Development programmes.
Manage operations, logistics and team support of the NPC playing team providing direction and strong leadership focused on winning.

4.  KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. / High Performance Player Development / ·  Contribute to and deliver the ARU’s high performance framework to the HP Academy.
·  Manage performance and progress reports for players participating in the HP programme.
·  Ensure players conduct themselves professionally and in accordance with the values of the ARU and protocols outlined in the NZR players collective.
·  Contribute to selection process for HP Academy in conjunction with Head of High Performance, NPC coaches, TID scouts with a view to progression into NPC selection.
2. / Resource Management / ·  Manage high performance training facilities, equipment, and access to training grounds ensuring world class standards.
·  Ensure human resources i.e. coaches, administrators, doctors, physio’s etc. are contracted to deliver technical elements of the programme.
·  Operate within assigned operational budget.
3. / Talent Identification / ·  Assist with implementing the ARU talent identification strategy for players through representative age group level to NPC level.
·  Work with coaches and managers through school and club rugby to monitor progress of identified players.
·  Manage and update the ARU player database.
4. / NPC Team Management / ·  Provide leadership and direction in managing players in meeting their contractual obligations to the ARU.
·  To manage and co-ordinate all team off field logistics including travel to and from games and tour itineraries, training, gear and equipment requirements, pre and post-game responsibilities and commitments.
·  Manage policies and standards of player behavior, deal with any disciplinary requirements.
·  Ensure sponsorship contractual requirements are met
·  Oversee the management of injured player’s rehabilitation with management of team support including physio, doctor, and masseuse.
·  Working with the Commercial & Partnership team to manage player promotional requirements and media requirements.
·  Work with NPC rugby competition rules to ensure full understanding and compliance.
5. / People Leadership / ·  Coach, motivate and inspire staff working as part of the operations team to optimise performance and achieve both strategic and operational objectives.
·  Create an enthusiastic and successful working environment focusing on thinking outside the box and challenging business norms.
·  Implement processes to ensure staff are delivering best practice and managing performance.
·  Set clear expectations and hold people accountable for delivering results and outcomes.
·  Establish and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the business.
·  Support the development and delivery of other rugby programmes with the ARU.
·  Ensure health and safety protocols are followed in accordance with ARU policy.
6. / Strategic Alignment / ·  Collaborate and contribute to the ARU’s organizational blueprint “Playing to Win” strategy, behaviors and initiatives therefore ensuring achievement of the balanced scorecard.
·  Actively engage in other duties, projects and opportunities assigned within the role.

Operating within assigned operational budgets.
Working with contracted players approx. 80-90 pa

6.  CHALLENGES OF THE JOB

The role is accountable for the delivery of high performance programmes and the team management of the NPC; role may experience seasonal & conflicting demands to be managed.
